Initially I thought they did it because the mainstream public would understand it better if famous person was hosting and that the general public doesn't care about detailed phone specs. Buuutttt..... the general public isn't who watches these launches. They likely barely know Google released a new phone and definitely aren't going to spend over an hour watching a presentation on it when they just want a new "phone".
The people that watch these things are the tech crowd who DOES care about the details of the new specs and likely already knew the general specs and features of the phone that didn't need to be covered at a Jimmy Fallon level. Give is techy people that are watching the details.... the phone is going to charge at 45w, the screen is 3300nits compared to the 3000 on the Pixel 9, increased battery to 5200mAh, etc
