What does the 1x, 3G, 4G disappear?

According to VZW's coverage map, my neighborhood is dead-center in a decent sized "4G LTE Coverage Area" (note - not even Extended - but actual coverage area). Since bringing my phone home Saturday, however, I have only seen 4G pop on the screen for a few seconds. Occasionally 3G will show up, somewhat often 1x, but most of the time just bars with no 1x/3g/4g whatsoever.

It took forever to activate google voice on the phone since it couldn't text out from my house (again, dead-center in a '4G LTE Coverage Area').

I have not yet tried disabling LTE - I'm hoping there are updates coming.

Has anybody gotten word from Verizon on timeline / issue details, etc?

Could be a defective phone. Take it back and get another. Same issue, then I agree its probably network related.

Same thing happens to me, at home south of Denver, at work in Denver proper, and earlier today in Lakewood just west of Denver. Annoying!

I am in Rancho Cucamonga California, 91730 over here on 4th st and oh my does the data drop so much having the same problem as everyone else. And the Voice Signal is also horrid never been this bad i bring my buddy to the same location he has the incredible and has full bars where mine only has 0-1 bars. Its weird for sure

I had a similar problem with my wife's t bolt. When I called tech support earlier this evening they had me pull the battery and hold the power button for ten seconds. When I put the battery back and restarted the data was back. It's been fine ever since. Not sure why that worked. I will say it seemed like the tech was reading the fix so maybe they figured something out.

I'm also in Rancho and have data drop once in a while.....sucks we dont have 4G in our area

Possible fix?

Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Data Roaming (make sure is checked.) Seemed to help on mine, but it could have also just been the restart as other users have reported.

I'm also experiencing similar issues, but my technical gut feel is that it's the phone not doing the right thing, to switch from 4G to 3G. Of course, the root cause is that Veirzon should have a strong network, but that'll take some time. So meanwhile they're ramping up their network, the TB should know how to step down from 4G to 3G, since the 3G coverage is phenomenal.

Sounds like a radio firmware bug and HTC needs to fix it.

BTW, HTC, I'm in Mt. View -- 94040, where coverage on 4G should be strong. 3G certainly is, and the phone should step down, but it doesn't. I keep having times where I have no data connectivity at all. When it works -- it's great. Through the hotspot, I get 10mbps down and 10mbps up...

Thx ---

Personally, I think this will be one of the first "updates" to come along. Probably shortly. Or, maybe I should say "soon" (in proper Thunderbolt fashion). :D

Mine drops out like this pretty frequently. I've exchanged phones and also got a new SIM card from my local VZW cororate store. Both phones have done it. 4G, then nothing, then 1X, then 3G, then nothing, then 4G, then 3G ad naseum. I'm in the middle of Denver and should have full 4G service, but often I only see 3G, and sometimes 1X for longish periods of time. I've been surfing the web or reading forums in tapatalk and lose all data service. I've seen work emails show up 10 minutes later on the phone than they did in Outlook at my desk. Grab the phone and look, no data service. My old Fascinate would NEVER do that. I'm seriously considering returning it due to the data service unreliability. I'm betting the chances of them fixing it within the remaining 10 days of my exchange period are slim. Probably best to get my $250 back.

Same issue here guys. I am in Orange county California. In fountain valley. here is the problem though, my phone is always connected to 4g but drops data as soon as I try to do anything that uses data. Worked fine for the first two days and now the last two days it started doing this. It does drop the 4g symbol and goes on and off.

I drove to school today and got epic 4g coverage, never disconnected, never dropped while I was browing for 30 mins sitting in the passenger seat ofcourse. Browsed the internet for an hour at school and worked great, no drops.

Drove back home, within a mile of my house the phone started dropping 4g and then it would pick up 4g again and would switch back and fourth.

Called tech support and some of them are really following the guidelines that are written in the book, telling me to reset my phone and crap. I just told her never mind, this doesn't look like you are interested in solving this problem.

I know the phone is fine, it is just that I am in the dead center of the 4g coverage map and I should not be getting spotty coverage. it seems like the that 1-2 mile radius is spotty coverage. But why was it working great for the first 2 days, blows my mind so I am switiching it to 3g for now, we will see if they fix this issue. I see some very negative press coming verizon's way if they tell people they are covered and are in the center of the 4g coverage but for some reason they put a tower in the wrong place.

MODS PLease change the title and sticky this thread we need this thread to stay on top and have more users report this issue.

Just received and activated my phone. It will not keep a steady 3G connection to save its life (not in a 4G area). I'm getting highly annoyed with having to reboot it just to keep a 3G connection for a minute or two.

I've switched my phone to "CDMA auto" and have had no further problems with the phone switching modes.

Before changing the setting, I was dropping from 4G to 3G quite often and sometimes even all the way to 1X. I'll stick with a rock solid 3G connection until the problems are worked out. 3G is still pretty damn fast so it's not a huge issue.

Same here in Western suburbs of Minneapolis. Clearly in 4G map. Will go from 4G to nothing. I have only seen 3G pop up once.
On a side note, at work today(downtown Minneapolis), my coworker tried a side by side search against his Iphone4. The Bolt took 2 seconds to his 15 seconds. So when it works it is beautiful but when it doesn't it kinda sucks.

I found the thread with the Phone Info app and switched the phone to CDMA auto as well. Haven't had any issues sense then. I don't live in a 4G area so it was pointless to have the phone searching for that! :)

I had the exact same issue the first day i got the TB. I live near pittsburgh pa which is a good 4g coverage area. Took to local verizon store and said i had better service with droid 1 and if this was going to be an ongoing problem i want to return phone, they replaced SIM Card and problem fixed immediatly.

Your kidding right? Anyone else have their SIM Replaced and problem solved? If so I'll take mine back.

I had my phone and SIM replaced and the second one was somewhat better about it. I'm having the SIM replaced a second time later tonight and I'll report back with my experience.

I've seen threads about this issue in several forums, so my belief is it is a systemic problem, either network, device or software.
