CK has made it no secret that the SGS2 will probably be his next device, but he's not being unreasonable with his comments in this thread. He's simply urging common sense. The GS2 has been out for almost 3 months, with plenty of reviews and tear downs for people to understand what the device has to offer. Short of holding one in your hand, it's pretty easy to make a purchase decision at this point. Of course, we still have no clue what the US carriers may, or may not do to it, which could easily change someone's mind. Meanwhile the Bionic isn't even out yet, nor is there anything beyond rumor on the specs. I think urging cautious optimism is fair.

Thank you. This is correct I'm not telling anyone not to get it. I'm just saying wait a couple weeks to see how the launch goes that way if there are any widespread problems that could be dealbreakers for some then they are that much better off. I'm sure some of you have seen others comment about how they are glad they waited to buy the Thunderbolt. It's the same thing. Some don't care to deal with battery life issues or data issues or reboot issues etc etc while others are fine with it and accept it as beeing early adopters. If you are in the group that does not want to deal with a problematic phone then wait. It's common sense. The phone will be available for purchase for a while after release. It's not going anywhere.

The reality is that nobody really knows how this phone is going to perform. Past issues shouldn't be ignored and now there is news they are manufacturing their own chip. 2 pieces of info that may or may not have any consequences.

Heck it could all go great. Yeah little hiccups here and there (standard normal release) Perfect I say, jump right in and purchase it. Now you know.

You have the added advantage of being an informed consumer right now. Just be cautious and make a decision YOU feel comfortable with.

Well put CK. That is exactly how I feel about it. I did try to adopt the Thunderbolt but ended up selling it because of all its issues. This purchase will be different for me. I'm still hoping that this will be my next upgrade. If it turns out that it is not what I am looking for personally, then I will more than likely wait for what's next on the horizon.

Thanks CK! I didn't know you cared so much about my phone buying decision. LOL maybe if any of your posts had one positive thing about the bionic, I could buy that you are just a do gooder trying to help out your fellow man. But every one of your post you are defnitive in that the bionic is an inferior product. Same story, same song. Redundancy at its finest.

That is my current plan, to not dive right in and wait it out a little. I always try to hold off and see just how well a device is received in the community and how well I think it performs in my eyes. Once I get the feel of how well the Android community welcomes it, or doesn't, then I will make my decision based on that. I am still a Moto fan but I really hope this crushes all expectations. If it doesn't then I will see what else is on the horizon.

I totally understand. Once you get burned it's hard to pull the trigger quickly ever again.

Keep me posted on what you end up doing. I think whatever you choose to finally do you will end up very pleased. You can't go wrong doing what your doing.

Re: OG post concerns over moto producing its own silicon.

Motorola has a long history of being very capable of making chips.

And not just in handsets, they're in the towers too.

Example: This $ 900, 30 watt, LTE capable, 8 core chip from Freescale (former chip division of motorola) P4080 Product Summary Page

The distinctions between motorola mobility (consumer), motorola solutions (enterprise), and other entities like Freescale are more for accounting and financial reasons rather than a hard separation of technical capability.

Just my opinion, but I'd say any perceived weakness in any one area (consumer targeted handsets) will probably be more than made up for by emphasis on corporate sales.

I will probably preorder or puchase from Costco the week after (the D3 is already available there which is a good sign) if I feel like I need more cushion. My goal has always been to have a high-end phone with unlimited LTE and I am really compelled to make this work because there are really no other choices. I mean, if I pass on the Bionic, what else is there? The SGS2 (probably won't be LTE), iphone 5 (no thanks and probably probably won't be LTE either)..? Who knows when the Nexus or the SGS3 comes out and unlimited data grandfathering may well be over by then. For what I want, I don't see any options other than making the Bionic work for me, and if I have to "beta test" it as an early adopter, I will probably have to deal with it.
