What have you replaced Messenger with for SMS/MMS on the Nexus 6P?

For me I stick with messenger since none of the 3rd party apps are compatible with sending MMS over WiFi with T-mobile WiFi calling and I am on WiFi calling with no cell signal for my entire work shift. My wife sends me a lot of pictures of our kids throughout the day. I used to use Textra though. I love the auto save to gallery option and the dark theme.

I use the built in messenger app that comes with the Cyanogenmod 13 that just came out for the Nexus 6P runs great.

I just switched to Signal in the vain hope it might become a defacto SMS and Messenging app. I dream of the day you can use Whatsapp as a SMS client and I can have all my messages in one spot.

Hows CM13, I was thinking about flashing it but with the 6p its my first phone where I have no desire to actually root it.

I feel the same way. It's the first Android phone where I'm fine the way it is. Never thought I'd say that

Signal Messenger. I view it as a seamless iMessage-like program. My friends that have it, I can send text and images instantly over Wifi, and those without still function as normal. I highly encourage everyone to try it out.

Actually switched to textra. Haven't paid for it yet but I like the customization and how simple it is to customize.

I am using Contacts+ to replace SMS, dialer and contacts. It also filters spam callers. Best feature was contacts, I found Mashmallow contacts very weak when compared to the Samsung world.

Textra on my Note 5...messenger on the 6P.
I prefer messenger but it was not working well on the Note.

For those of you trying material messaging, I'm glad you like it. My only issue is his stance that there can't possibly be anything wrong with his code. But it is a great app!

For those others that are having out of order messages...i get that from time to time from my Verizon friends, and I was on sprint, now tmobile. One of the options I saw in material messaging is to force multipart sms messages to be MMS. I wonder if something like that might fix that issue?

I think SMS is simplest way to send message just write and send. It is not like other applications or messengers they have lot of issues like stuck, hanging and internet.

I'm using messenger because it's clean and it usually works. I had TERRIBLE issues with texting on my last phone (htc one m8) while connected to wifi calling on tmobile. I tried like 5 different texting clients. Messenger didn't work on that phone. Texts would just say "sending" forever.

On this phone, it works 80% of the time, but sometimes I'll get the same issue (just stuck in sending), and sometimes I'll get tons of random mms message downloads (from people who haven't sent me anything) that say failed download over and over. It works great with android wear too, but honestly I'm just so frustrated that I can't completely depend on it for sms. It works better than anything else has, but sometimes mms doesn't send or come in, sometimes texts don't send. I just really want it to work :/

For anyone having mms issues or randomly receiving "download" messages try using the APN settings from the link below. I was having a terrible time until I found this. I am on Verizon and have been fine since.

Apparently I am not worthy enough to post a link... Google "Nexus 6P APN United States". Should be the first or second link.
