What is needed for HDMI out on the Note 3

I don't know, but it seems that HDMI output from mobile phone needs extra energy power because maybe the battery isn't able to provide the minimum necessary power for it to work properly.
A micro USB to HDMI cable doesn't have the possibility of plugging an external power supply... I presume.

everyone is talking about an mhl adapter but I suppose a micro usb to hdmi cable works as good as well, no?

Can someone actually explain why a mhl adapter is needed to make your tv and phone work?
Why won't something like this work: MHL aansluitkabel micro USB naar HDMI in de Conrad online shop | 989069

My adapter works also without external power, but eats energy hell fast. Even with connected power supply discharge faster than charge.

Can anyone confirm that the Note 3 has enough power to run a MHL 2.0 cable with no external power? The link for this Monoprice MHL addapter states

"Some devices (such as the HTC EVO 3D) can supply sufficient power from their internal batteries to drive the adapter. For others, or in the event you want to charge your device while using the AV output, you can plug the USB cable into a USB power source."

I don't mind plugging it in but would like to have the option to NOT plug it in if the situation comes up.

Thanks

I just use Chrome cast. I still play with my phone while I'm watching a movie on the TV, love it, no wires

You need a 5 to 11 pin adapter for this to work. Look for a 11pin MHL adaptor on eBay is your better bet. I bought one for about 16 bucks, it works without usb power.

what type of content can you project on Chromecast? I just simply want to play HTML5 video, but no luck so far.

does the monoprice mhl adapter work without power and does it do 1080 video?

I just tried my old mhd adapter that I used before with the htc rezound and it does not work with the Note 3

I would like to get full 1080 video quality and not need power

No I just got the exact cable and does not work. Even though it states it does for the Note 3. Back to drawing board and still looking. Good luck.

MAXAH? 2 Meters (6.5 feet) MHL Micro USB to HDMI Cable Adapter HDTV for Samsung Galaxy S3 S4 Note2 Note3 i9300 i9500 N7100 N9006. by MAXAH? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DZJSAVY...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU3430020

I purchased this MHL HDMI cable from Amazon. Works fine. Plays whatever is playing on my Note 3. No lag. Only down side is usb plug is a tad short (+/- 2.5 feet) to plug into my wall outlet, so I use tv's usb outlet. Slow charge from tv so hopefully your wall outlet is close to tv. I give it a 4 out of 5.

I ordered one of the cables listed on this thread from ebay but when I hook it up I get nothing; this is the same thing that happened when I connected my older mhl cable to the Note 3
nothing shows on the tv. Is there a setting on the samsung to activate the hdmi out?

I ended up needing the charging cable to get this to work but the reason I ordered this cable from ebay is because I thought people said you don't need the charging cable

this makes is very very hard to use outside of the home since you would need the MHL cable, another cable with micro usb and USB and the charger with you to get this to work

which cable can I get that works with the Note 3 for sure without needing a charger cable plugged in

Most likely if you got all the cables connected correctly, it might be a selection on your tv that you are missing.

I am not sharp by a long shot, I ordered this cable, it came with no instruction, but from reading this thread, you take the 3 prong cable and the micro usb goes to the Note 3, the USB goes to a power-source connector, and the HDMI goes to the HDMI connection on your TV. Select that connection. That is what I did, and it worked. Since I have Tmobile unlimited data, I look at about 4 Netflix movies. I just ordered another one for my wife's S4..

That USB part of the cable MUST go to a power source. I am sure if that doesn't go to a power source, it won't work..

Here is the one I got. .Cost about $7.25 shipped.

Yes that exact cable. Does not work for me. I think I need the 5 to 11 pin adaptor. But will have to wait till I can get one. Shouldn't be this hard to hook and use.

I tend to agree with previous poster; are you sure your tv's input is set to the correct hdmi source? I have 3 hdmi ports and always use #3.

Have just recently bought the official samsung s4 hdtv adapter to use with note3, people said it worked for note3, in all fairness it does but for whatever reason my phone signal just stops...cable essentially does what it's supposed to, it does the interference thing that others have mentioned but the odd thing with me is that the phone's network signal drops to zero, with crossed circle symbol popping up, have bought this to occasionally watch a bit of youtube on a bigger screen... Any ideas anyone...pls
