I rooted my GS3 last month and I want to update it to 4.1.2. I am a NOOB and looking for the best way for me to do this without causing myself any issues. If anyone has a link to step by step procedures that my 11 year old can follow, that would be great.

First, since you're in this forum, I assume you have a SPRINT GS3. If you don't have a Sprint GS3, ignore everything that follows and go find the rooting forum for YOUR phone. Applying Sprint rooting and ROMs to another carriers phone will turn your lovely S3 into an expensive door stop.

OK, the answer to your first question is right at the top of this forum: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...-30-2012-sprint-only-unroot-return-stock.html

But if what you really want to do is just update to 4.1.2, and you have a rooted Sprint GS3, then follow the instructions in Post 2 of this thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint-galaxy-s-iii/257471-your-way-update-mb1.html
There's no need to unroot first.

I copied the zip file to my sd card. When I tried to install it, I received a message that installation was aborted. Any suggestions?

Sounds like he's flashing the update for in post#1 instead of the files he's supposed to be flashing in post 2.
