What is the best tempered glass screen protector for the S7?

Never would I have believed that a premium flagship would not have available for it a tempered glass protector that gives full screen coverage. The slightly curved edges of the s7 screen have thrown a curveball at everyone. I spoke with someone at a Zagg repair shop yesterday and they said that their contoured glass protector for the S7 is coming out by the first week in May. We shall see....but that's what we need....contoured glass. Tech Armor is coming out with one too. My guess is we have another month or so before this issue is put to rest. Until then, the options are limited. You can go glass but not get full coverage (ex. Tech Armor Ballistic Glass), or you can go non-glass and get full coverage (ex. Spigen HD Curved Crystal). There are others, like Coral.

Bottom line is we're still in a holding pattern on this.

I have my doubts that we will ever see a good one. The S6 had the same issue, though to a lesser extent, and I don't think they ever got a good one. The iPhone 6 also has the same issue, don't think they have a good screen protector either.

Why would the S7 be any different?

Who knows in the end if we'll see it. However, in response to a floodgate of screen protector complaints and returns due to the more dramatic curves of the S7, companies have taken the step of announcing curved glass versions that are on the way. To my knowledge, that hasn't been done before.

From Zagg's site (this version isn't out yet...but it has been announced) -- "ZAGG’s new InvisibleShield Glass Contour will offer the same benefits as our other tempered glass screen protectors, but will be curved to match the design of your Galaxy S7 & Galaxy S7 edge – giving you edge-to-edge protection you can’t find with any other glass screen protector."

And there's also this that's in development but not out yet -- Samsung Galaxy S7 Premium HD Clear 3D-Edge Ballistic Glass Screen Protector Blk [1-Pack]

I'll still believe it when I see it, but there does seem to be a difference this time around with specific design modifications announced in response to the specific issues with the S7

It's the one thing I hate about this phone and that's the stupid visible screen portion that curves. I slapped a glass protector on my last phone and it worked perfectly with no clarity issue or touch sensitivity issues. It also saved my phone from a nasty drop. I have to baby my S7.

Make it so.

Just to keep the conversation going on this, it is now halfway through June 2016, and I am in the same boat as most of y'all. Having studied and worked in the fields of mechanical and manufacturing engineering for a few years, I understand the unique challenges presented by the weird curve of the Galaxy S7's screen. Currently, there are three non-ideal approaches to this problem:

  1. Use a flexible plastic film which conforms easily to the curves
  2. Use a flat piece of tempered glass which only sticks to the flat part of the screen
  3. Use a 3D-curved piece of glass which, for some reason, only has adhesive at the top and bottom, and covers up the shiny surface at the top and bottom of the phone

I think the reason the 3D-curved glass screen protectors do not have adhesive under the viewing surface is slightly complicated. With a flat glass screen protector, you can bend it along one axis when installing it, so that the contact area with the screen starts out as a line. That line can then spread out uniformly, allowing the adhesive to stick to the screen with no bubbles. With a 3D-curved piece of glass, trying to bend it would likely cause it to crack. If you can't bend it a little, I imagine it would be very difficult to get the whole screen to stick without any bubbles. If the adhesive is only at the top and bottom (the non-display area), it solves that problem, but allows dust and other particles to get between the screen protector and the screen. What I want (and what I imagine most of you also want) is a full-coverage, 3D-curved, tempered glass screen protector that is transparent over its whole surface (including the non-display area) and adheres to the entire screen. I'm not quite sure how to accomplish this, but I wonder if it would be possible by using several extremely thin layers of glass instead of one.

I had an Alpha Glass screen protector on my Galaxy S5 and loved it. It looked and felt like it wasn't even there, and the included installation kit allowed me to align it perfectly. I hope technology can catch up with what customers want. Of course, this was a smart move on Samsung's part; making it difficult to design a good screen protector increases the likelihood that customers will break their screens and either pay for repairs or buy new phones.

I was told by the guys in the Zagg kiosk that having the Glass Curve on the phone means you can't use a case.

I agree that you cant use a case. I have tried and the cases lift the edges of the protector. Anyone got any ideas how to use a full screen protector and a case. Or which combination of protector and case to use?

I have an S7 with a Zagg screen protector and a Samsung flip case. Can't see the screen protector. No problems.

Same here with no issues at all. No peeling, no halos...been on for about a month.

Yep, I am going naked at the moment. Tried one of those "full coverage" glass protectors they sell on Amazon that is color matched to the phone and only has sticky on the edges. The first one chipped around the speaker hole. The second one just wouldn't stay put. They eventually gave me a refund and I haven't tried again.

Has anyone tried MIME ? I had a great experience with them on my HTC, but this phone seems to be a real pita to make glass for so I am skeptical of anything working properly
.

Have ordered my Tempered Glass via Ali Express for 0.75 cents. And that is as good as that very expensive. People let their capture by the expensive prices. The cheap are just as good. Think it over.

I really don't think you need a screen protector on an S7. I've had my S7 since launch and have never had a screen protector on it. The screen has absolutely no scratches on it what so ever!

Could someone help me as I'm going crazy with these screen protectors for S7 (not S7 edge, but simple S7).

I bought on ebay a first one, a simple one (not tempered glass) but the protector is way to narrow. I have 2-3 mm on each side of the display area (I'm talking strictly of the part where pixels are displayed). Thus in total 4-6mm of the display area is not protected.

Then I bought from another seller and the same happened, the other protectors are as well too narrow, actually they are the same as the ones from the first shop.

I have a spiggen rugged armor case that I bought together with the screen protector from the first ebay shop.

Leaving aside the reason for which such protectors are sold (there must be one, even though I do not fully understand why you leave out 6mm of your screen uncovered...), I just would like to find a screen protector that covers all the display area (at least fully the part where the pixels are shown).

I have already waited some time for the second set of protectors to be shipped, I would like to buy a third time the good one, to finally be able to fully use my new S7.

I have an S7 and not an S7 edge phone.

Many thanks
