What problems are you experiencing with the Essential Phone

That is a giant leap of faith. There are no facts to support what you are saying. Yeah, it would be terrific if the phone does improve. But their customer service is not just anemic, it's downright pathetic. I cannot trust them.

Its not a giant leap of faith at all to say a new company is going to improve their software. As people use it and the issues are reported, it can only get better. Even the big companies have put out less than stellar software and then turn around a fix it with a few updates. Thats how software works, its not just one and done that's all you get.

I was back playing with essential in the sprint store and I could not recreate a single issue I have read about, the camera app didnt bother me one bit. It took pictures just like every other phone I have owned.

Also do most people in this thread realise the company only employs 100 people. 100 people to undertake the launching of a new brand isn't a lot at all.

The latest camera update fixed a few performance issues for sure. I can see them already and doesn't crash as before the update.

I think you need to hold the bottom of the phone to the reader. There's mention of it here somewhere. I'll update if I find it.

Yeah, the contact point is on the bottom of the phone. I haven't used Android Pay yet but I did pair it with a speaker via NFC and as soon as I tapped the bottom of the phone to the speaker it connected.

This is correct, I was able to use Android pay after hearing the sensor was in the bottom of the phone.

No wifi calling on ATT per advanced tech support. Anyone successful?
Same. Got VoLTE and HD Voice working, but no wifi, which sucks because the hurricane knocked out the cell tower closest to me so I basically have no service at home. My iPhone with WiFi calling is working perfectly though.
 
yesterday I was trying to turn on WiFi and it would not find my network or populate with any wifi info. I restarted the phone and it started working
 
Using the phone in daylight is practically not possible. No such issues with my iPhone. I HATE talking on it because I have the drop the top edge of the phone into the middle of my ear to hear. Uncomfortable. And my friends are complaining that they cannot hear me well.

I had some crashing of apps last night.

I have the same feelings about the placement of the phone on the ear. I can never get it right and it feels uncomfortable.

I posted about this at YouTube and was personally attacked for it. :( So ridiculous.

After having used the phone more since I posted the above i can say that it has not gotten any better. I have my return slip so it goes in the mail in the morning.
 
For the second morning in a row I cannot turn off the alarm. It will not respond at all to my touch. I have to turn off the phone to silence. Can’t even turn volume down

Try force stopping it, then reboot.
 
Just got my phone yesterday and I noticed today that I cannot get it to charge without plugging in the charger and restarting the phone. The phone will then charge but as soon as I unplug the charger I cannot get it to charge again until I restart again with the charger plugged in. Has anyone else seen this?

No issues here. Are you not seeing any charge status in the battery icon until a restart? Does the LED light or not? Have you installed any apps or changed any settings related to charging? Are you using the original charger or something else?

Just trying to nail down a root cause. It's odd that it works after a reboot. It sounds more software related than hardware but it's difficult to say without more info.

No status light or charging indication until I restart with it plugged in. Also using the original charger and no changing apps installed.

I also have an issues where the smart Lock just show blank white when opened. No options whatsoever

That's bizarre. Only thing I can suggest is a factory reset. Something isn't right. If that doesn't fix it then I'd push for an exchange and stress that you want a new device and not one from the return pool.
