What problems are you experiencing with the Essential Phone

It's a real shame that the phone is so buggy. It's beautiful, but I've already swapped my sim back to my OnePlus 5 as it's mediocre camera produces much better results and the OS is way more stable.

Same O5 is a great device though

I have not had any problems, maybe a freeze here and there but gets easily fixed by double or triple tapping the command on screen buttons below. I love this phone and the battery life is superb! Way better then my LG G5 and Huawei P9 Plus, charges blazing fast too. So the people that have problems may just have a defective phone. Just wait for the updates to come in people, this phone will just get better by the day. It's worth every single penny.

After putting the preferred Network to "LTE" or "Global" and letting things soak in the phone seems to be behaving today and I have had zero issues...

Brand new phone from a brand new company...bound to be many a hiccup along the way. But thus far I have been more than pleased. Sim card issue was on AT&T not Essential. A lag here or there but far less so than the S7 edge plus I've been using for the past few month since my Nexus 6p went into the bootloop of death. Haven't even opened their camera app...sideloaded Google's camera app and have no real complaints.

The build quality is awesome and u can't beat stock android. For where they are as a new company with a new product isn't too shabby. I do think it will just continue to get better and better as they tweak the software.

The problems folks facing with AT&T and Verizon is not particular to the Essential Phone. We have the same issues with any other unlocked phone (that are not selling in the store) like HTC U11 or Huawei phones. So, we shouldn't really be blaming Essential instead ask AT&T and Verizon to play nice. Just my thoughts.

If you want to be a paid beta tester then hats off to you. But for $700 I expect a phone that gets a competent touch stack and camera!

That said, this is an exciting design and some good first steps with the phone. So I hope there is a version 2.

I have seen a lot of people saying they are using the Google Camera app. Does it use both cameras or just one of the cameras? I thought I read somewhere that the Google camera only used the color camera lens.

Just the color lens. Try both Google HDR+ and Open Camera.

Day two and I'm still at zero touch / software issues. I don't doubt that others have had problems but I also suspect there are quite a few without problems. Installed apps might play a big role.

Or the people who are having problems have experience with how SD 835 phone should perform that too running stock Android? I can't speak about others but I have bought every flagship this year and this is the first phone software performance wise which is so bad. Side by side using any of this year's flagship this feels so unpolished.
But as I say all these can be resolved with software update so if someone wants to hold on I believe they will probably push few updates which will eventually get it on par with how other phones perform.

I hate to say it but your right. I am seeing a bit of stuttering on some youtube videos and play videos. Its not bad but not what should happen on a 2017 device.

The device is absolutely gorgeous and if all I cared was about the design then this phone would be it for me but I look at the whole picture and so so performance and camera quality is really disappointing.

I don't want to wait for the several updates that it going to take to fix this. Another note too is there are apps that will need updating to work correctly with the essential and I really don't know how long that will take.

G6, S8+ and Pixel experience here. That's a wide mix of top 2017 SD processors. My PH-1 feels quicker in some regards and the same in others. I'm just not seeing the issues everyone keeps talking about. I'd honestly love to find them myself, especially before the return window is up.

The problem is not one person is being specific on the issues. It would help all of us to say what app is having problems, what's installed on the phone, which launcher is being used, etc. There are an infinite number of variables here. One person says an S8 is "laggy" when another says it's the fastest ever. This stuff is all over the map.

If it works for some people then it's great. I have the same set up on all my phonesl, problem here is not apps, it's just overall system UI responsiveness, scrolling, touch response, random freezing etc.

Using stock launcher since that's the only one which uses the full screen. I restored apps from my google back up when I set up which may cause issues I'll give you that. But I restore on all my phones, have done many this year (can't even count) and have had no issues on any of them.
I'll probably factory reset sometime this weekend and set it up as new instead of restoring from backup since that's fair.

Meanwhile here is a redditt thread some one started listing all the issues.

So far the software is good for me in my Essential Phone. The only issue I have is the camera app which is slow and buggy. Rest of the stuff is running smooth.

I started 100% clean. Restoring from backup certainly creates a variable as some settings might be restored that are removed in the PH-1. I have a ton of BlackBerry stuff installed and my phone is managed under MDM. Hopefully some issue pops up for me in the next two weeks. Other than wanting a feature or two (such as double-tap to wake), it's been smooth.

Alright, factory reset now. I'll set up fresh without restoring any of my apps from Google backup and see if that resolves the scrolling, touch reponsive and random freezing issues.

I'll update tomorrow on how it went.

Alright take 2 .. fresh start

Yeah, I started as fresh as well.

I installed the Google camera app no problems with it works fast. the only thing I see is the touch screen needs sensitive turned up a bit. I think the Robin had the same problem when it first released....oh well new company they will patch it. otherwise love the screen size to phone size ratio. that's the reason I bought it.

So many complainers, i think this phone is better looking and runs faster then any sh!t Samsung Galaxy or CRApple phone, great job Andy Rubin and the rest of the team, just wait on the updates and this phone will become a beast on steroids.

A percentage of all users have problems with their handsets. I bought a Pixel at launch, but it was unusable with the signal drop and Wi-Fi problems. Others had no issues. This is just what happens.
