What to get - Maxx or Galaxy S4?

Then you will have to explain why my S4 doesn't stutter anymore. Nor all the people who updated on the S4 forum.
It's relative. When the S4 first released, new owners actively defended the S4, denying stutter. Now that an update is out, they claim its fixed (you know, the stutter that wasn't there before). Or they claim that Launchers fix it. The TouchWiz home screen isn't the problem. It's the crappy programming that Samsung did as a whole. Everything they added on top of AOSP sucks, it's inefficient, slow and resource heavy. It's faster, yet stutters more than much less spec'd devices.

The S4 is like a V8 with a bad spark plug.

Nothing a ROM based on the Google Edition code can't fix. :)

False. It's not relative. I never defended the S4 stutter problems (go look at the forum - I slammed the crap out of the S4). But the latest update eliminated any delays or stutters. If it didn't on your example, there is something else going on with that example.

I never, ever complained about any lag or stutter!

I know that many people here in the forums complained about it, but I never saw nor experience that problem.
When I was testing the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One in the stores to help me make up my mind I never experienced any stutter on either phone!

And my phone is the same after the update.

You make it sound as if every single Galaxy S4 had that problem, and that's not true!

^2 owners back to back. One says the update fixes everything, the other saying it was perfect to begin with and the update changed nothing. This is how threads derail.

Whatever your opinion on the smoothness of the S4, I'm just glad users are noticing an improvement with the Droid MAXX.

Again, it's all relative. People's definition of stutter seems to be vastly different.

I came from an s4. It was great but I was really getting tired of touchwiz and most of the features they rolled out that use gestures or with your eyes I didn't use. I would much rather have a "stock" android experience with a giant batter and Kevlar casing.

Threads derail with comments like yours!
You need to understand that not every device out there is the same!

Anyway, it's not my fault I never had any lag or stutter with my phone. On the contrary, I'm happy that I didn't have them!
Would you be happier if I lied and said I had them and the update fixed them?

The good thing is people have great choices like the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One.

I've been seeing some people (myself included) saying that Active Notifications only shows your latest notification. That's not entirely true. It'll show what's pending below the central item, and it'll show your latest notification's details (at the top), but depending on the notification, it also will show at the bottom. For example, I had a work email, a few Gmail messages, and a Hangout message waiting for me. My work email was the latest so showed in the center. At the bottom was a gmail icon with "6 new messages" next to it, and just above that, the Hangout icon with the actual Hangout message (it was just the word "ok" - so maybe that's why it showed, but still...). At the top was the email app's icon with "5 new email messages".

Anyway, just wanted to clarify - it's pretty helpful.

Hi all,
I went for the Maxx on wirefly.com, (199.99 and no sales tax), I just couldn't take Samsung's poor reception and dismal battery life anymore.
I will adapt to the 25G of available storage, its the lesser evil in my opinion.
Anyone else buy theirs on wirefly?

Well i did the preorder at Best Buy Mobile today for the Maxx. Funny the 2 Customer reps that were there, both had GS4's and the guy i dealt with couldnt say enough great things about his GS4. He showed me several things including the split screen option, his calendar app, various screens and apps etc. and he said he has set several GS4's up with his "own tweaks" and he said he hasnt had any sluggishness or signal strength issues etc. He said that he can go a full day or more without recharging. He fell short of refusing to preorder the Maxx for me ;) Hard to tell where the truth lies with the GS4. Im sure some people have issues and some dont. And the variables on where people are located, what apps they are running etc all contribute to their experience.

I have till whenever the phone ships and then 15 days after to change my mind. Hopefully by then ill have read enough to help make the decision easier. But for now im on the Maxx bandwagon.

That's right! :thumbup::D

I've always liked Motorola, and my GS4 is my first Samsung phone.
The truth is that I get the same signal strength on my GS4 as I did on my Motorola Photon. And like I said before, I never experienced any lag or stutter on my phone so, yes, not all phones are the same. :p;)

I dont have any actual experience with the S4 other than comparing one to the Maxx at a Verizon store. I do see a lot complaints regarding signal issues on the S4 boards. My Galaxy Nexus has serious signal issues My wife's Razr HD works where my phones is just a hot paperweight. I paid a premium price for the Nexus, went through 4 while it was under warranty and now older phones that sold for half its price are worth twice its trade in price. I want a phone with a big screen, good reception and great battery life. The Maxx fits the Bill.

I've heard of signal issues on S4 yet again Im In philly visiting family using tmobile and I have great signal why wife hardly has signal on her iphone 5

Beasty S4

I'm torn between the HTC One+Mophie vs Droid MAXX.

I stopped at Verizon yesterday and looked at the One. It's nice, but I don't see what the fuss is about with that aluminum case. And I will bet that case is why it doesn't have inductive charging. The Maxx feels better in my hand, and the battery life is going to kick the One to the curb. I don't think there is much competition there. Yeah the One is pretty, but the Maxx is going to be a better phone, I think.

I love the matte feel of the back. Some have said it doesn't feel secure like it might slip out but I think its more secure than what I felt with the One.

You are a brilliant person, do you know that you are the only one that addressed the real issues anywhere online. What do we do with our SD cards? and we can extend the battery passed the droid maxx life to over 48 hours. Bravo.

Use it as a flash drive with OTG cable. Root NOT required.

that's funny. I'm considering a Galaxy Note 2 or the Maxx and I'm leaning towards the Note 2.

What are your reasons for leaving the Note 2 for the Maxx?

Note 2 was too big. IPhone 5 was too small. Call me Goldilocks.

I have both phones, and I have to say that I really enjoy the DM much more than the GS4; however, I've never been much for the Samsung theme, and the DM just feels MUCH more like my Nexus 7 (which I love). The Samsung does have a great looking screen... but thats about the only plus it has over the maxx in my opinion

My DM and N7'13 are now perfectly matched. No VZW branding on the face either.

That's always a plus! :thumbup::D

Now if they would not install all their bloatware!:banghead:

You can disable all the bloat in app manager. It's a non issue. (In assuming your talking about the droid)

The one with juice pack of about 3x the thickness of the maxx, and taller as well. As for software, Motorola is preferred not only in ui at this point but update turn around time.
