What's missing in Pie/One UI update?

What do you mean by this?

Dual camera was an add on that allowed you to take a picture with the rear facing camera with a small inset showing the image from the front facing camera. Kind of like picture in a picture.

Great for showing a selfie reaction of an image you are taking.

Removed "Schedule message"

They removed "Schedule message" feature for setting a day/time to send a text message. I loved this & would use it quite a bit actually. Especially when I thought of something but it was too late to text, I simply scheduled it for a day/time and it automatically sent the text message at that time. Worked good too for sending Happy Anniversary, etc. when I remembered it but it wasn't the actual day yet - lol! Maaaaan...

Can't just "punch in" to record video in camera app. You have to scroll through the different camera modes to find video mode now. Not bad if you're in the plain photo mode, but a bit slower to access if you're in, for example, pro mode ro start.

Schedule message is still available, hit the + in the text box where your message goes and then the 3 vertical dots for the sub menu!

I'll tell you what's missing in regards to Pie notifications.
Here's what I DON'T like about Pie 9.0 notifications:

1. Inability to set expandable drop down notifications. Example. I receive a 3 sentence Twitter notification but Pie only allows me to see the first sentence. I should be able to toggle between minimized drop down notifications and expandable sized.
2. Inability to set the drop down notification time before it disappears. It seems to default to about 4 seconds max. I should be able to set that myself.
3. Inability to to adjust the lockscreen display time when receiving and reading a lockscreen notification. Notification comes in and I literally only have a few seconds to read it before the screen goes black. This should be customizable.
4. Drop down notification area. I should be able to select where on the screen I receive my notifications. Right now we only get to read the drop down notifications from the top. I may want it on them on the bottom. Or the middle. We should have the choice.
5. Greater control over color/brightness. We can receive dark colored notifications but only if we're in night mode. I should be able to control how bright and what color I want my notifications.

Everyone seems to love these enriched notification settings but I think Android pretty much fails miserable in the true customization department when it comes to notifications.

Here's what I DON'T like about Pie 9.0 notifications:

1. Inability to set full drop down notifications. Example. I receive a 3 sentence Twitter notification but Pie only allows me to see the first sentence. I should be able to toggle between minimized drop down notifications and maximize sized.

Were any of these in oreo?

Bixby Won't Unlock Phone

Bixby used to let you unlock your phone with a passphrase you had to set up. When I tried it just now, Bixby tells me this feature can't be supported...

You can still lock the phone.

None of these feature were available in Oreo. Moreover, that's completely irrelevant.
That actually was a totally relevant question since this thread is only about what's missing in the update, not what's missing in Android (that would be an entirely different thread!). As I was reading your list, I was trying to think why in the world would he list all this stuff when none of it was even available in Oreo to start with.

Pulldown menu does not include screen rotate anymore.wps feature is gone,(i use several times a day to t.s. at work w illiterate customers w personal provided routers)the icons look like children designed them.calls drop randomly, wifi is erratic.you can keep the "update".

The ability to schedule a message is still there. Open the messaging app, select the person you want to send the message to, hit the + on the left of the message box, hit the 3 dots on the right, then select schedule message. 😁

You're right! Thx so much!!!

So it's buried in with sending an attachment...maybe this way more people will be aware of it? I just haven't attached anything to a text message yet.

Thx again!

On another feature that's missing...

It's technically still there but the apps you can use this feature for is limited. Which is the ability to split the screen using two apps. I used this a lot but now it can only be used for certain apps. Not even calculator can be split with another app - that was really useful. Not sure why they revived it. My old tablet still does it.

So how would one uninstall Pie to go back to Oreo or even Nougat? The thing I liked about Nougat is while on the phone the phone screen didn't time out. But Oreo would be fine for me. Is there any way to downgrade?

You can still split the screens with the Pie update, including with the calculator app. Just hit the "recents" button at the bottom and then press and hold the icon of the recent app you want to open in the split screen.

One addition I like is you can select the app to be a pop up and then you can change the transparency of the app, so for example when I book work trips I can have my calendar app open but fairly transparent and use it on top of other apps.

Seems like a bunch of features are still there, just buried in different layers.

Holy cow and you're right too!!!!!! This was really important to me and it totally works for all my apps! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I seriously appreciate it!

It seemed more intuitive & easier to do in Oreo and you could swap the screens by tapping the middle split bar but now nothing happens so I guess this feature was removed but not a big deal. Also, getting back to full screen in Oreo just meant long pressing the "recents" button...this too is more complicated than it needs to be, but hey, can't complain as the split screen feature is still active!

Ok, so now you all are on a roll in helping me! Last one (I think)...

Email used to let you schedule an email to be sent at a later day/time. I think this feature was removed in Oreo since I remember it only in Nougat. Anyone know if this is buried in some setting? I checked email settings and can't find it...

That's right! After the update, I can't have my Note 8 bake a cake or fly around the room!

So disappointed with this update.

Mine can fly around the room if I want it to. It's the landing and working afterwards that might be an issue.

I still don't get a notification badge for voice mail. That dissappeared with the Oreo update and I have never been able to get it to work. I literally have no idea I received a voice message if I don't hear it come it, unless I open that app and check for a voice message. It's a real pita.
