Whats wrong with my phone or battery?(Samsung Galaxy Core Prime)

So I have a galaxy core prime and what happens is, my phone will tell me I'm at low battery, whether its 5% or 15%, when I plug it in to charge, it drops down to 1% and charging. Should I try to get a new battery? Or is there another way to fix this..

Welcome to Android Central! Does it actually charge up to 100%? If so, try calibrating the battery sensor software by charging up to 100%, using it normally until it shuts off from low battery, then charging back up to 100%, and repeating this cycle 3 times.

If that doesn't help, then see if a new or different battery behaves the same way.
