I tried the device at a Veriz store. Much more impressive in person. Shockingly thin and light (really amazed at how light it felt, like paper).
The thinness, however, kept reminding me of how small the battery is. You really understand why they couldn't pack in a higher battery. I wish they made it marginally thicker to fit a bigger battery.
I also took a few photo shots with the camera to compare them with my Nexus 5 on hand. They were about on par with the Nexus 5, and in some cases, slightly better. Based on such a quick and early trial, I can see the device living up to the reviews -- the camera is just "okay."
Still not ordering yet, though. I want it, but I don't. Sigh. It's frustrating Motorola didn't nail the camera down this time around and only settled for making it better than the OG Moto X. It's also frustrating Motorola took a page out of Apple's book, and went with thinness instead of a larger battery. Sure, it's pretty and nice to hold (again, shockingly thin!), but worth the price? Not sure. Could they not have "met in the middle" -- given it just a marginally thicker body to house a larger battery? Even something slightly larger, like something closer to 2600 or 2800 would help, no?
Such a shame. Frustrating. I guess I'm just frustrated by Android's portfolio this year. Every major flagship device has some sort of deal-breaking compromise.
