Whats your first impression of your new Moto X!?

The M8 has only a slightly bigger battery than the Moto X and has the same processor and same number of pixels, so wouldn't it only have slightly better battery life than the Moto X? It seems like the Moto X has a thinner software layer as well.

Compared to the Moto X, the M8 has a 13% larger battery, an 8% smaller screen, and an 8% lower clocked CPU (2.3 vs. 2.5 GHz). Those add up to a rather noticeable difference. Also, LCDs (in the M8) use less power than AMOLED screens (in the X) when displaying mostly light colored or white apps and web pages, and most apps and web pages have been trending towards light colors or white the past couple years.

Just got my new moto x few hours ago. I love it! I'm coming from nexus 4. Screen is way better! everything is smooth, super fast compared to my nexus 4. Camera is better. Only thing I don't like is it doesn't sit flat on the table... makes it hard to text in class. Other than that. I love it.

First battery drain. This looks terrible but I spent the day installing apps and downloading and streaming music. Plus a long commute reading and constantly playing with because it's new. Normally I plug in as soon as I get in the office. Didn't do that until just now. Good? Bad? No idea.

I had actually made this comment earlier to another individual in this thread.

"One thing to consider, I've read a bunch of reviews, and few said the battery life improved over several days. So if it doesn't seem great at first, give it more time."

This phone is fast. I mean the fastest android phone I've ever used. Moto said 60fps in the entire UI and they weren't kidding. I have yet to find a way to make this phone lag.

I can give a better battery assessment in a few days. I had to throw it on the charger 3x yesterday but it came charged at only 35% and I never got it to 100% until this morning so I think I'll have a better idea in a few days.

Looking forward to more info, especially to see if it lasted longer than when you had your Nexus 5.

Definitely would like a photo of the cognac leather. Phandroid's photos made it look very very reddish, which I don't like. I want a more true brown. Other photos though show the cognac in a much truer brown color.

I'm pretty colorblind so I can't say whether it's more brown or more reddish brown. It just doesn't look like the picture on the builder to me. I took photos of it on my kitchen table with a white linen table cloth as well as a shot outside in direct sun for comparison.

There is one on the beginning of this thread. I would like to see cognac next to natural leather

I would like to see that as well, sadly I don't have nor know anyone who has the natural leather back.

Photos are below, keep in mind it has sat in its box and on a cloth since I opened it as I wanted to document the back before actually using it. The pics of the back are exactly how it came out of the box, dimples marks and all. Trust me when I say in person it looks much worse.

All the initial reviewers warned that they thought the leather backs would not wear well, i.e., they would show marks and scuffs. I don't understand why people ignored this and ordered the leather anyway. But, if you plan on getting a case, I guess its a moot point anyway.

I went into Verizon today and compared the stock plastic back with the bamboo back. I wanted to find out which was "less slippery." The wood was definitely less slippery than the plastic, and looked gorgeous. I ordered the ebony wood back for mine.

Metal edge, bigger screen, lighter and thinner, speaker moved to the front, camera upgrade, Moto (formerly assist) improved, improved specs....very very impressed.

Got my black resin back with dark metallic trim this PM. I think it's the best phone out there next to the iPhone 6, when combining look and overall user experience. Speaking of look, I'm actually amazed how AWESOME the design of the Moto X is -- didn't quite realize that from the pics in the reviews.

It'll be a tough call between these two phones. I find Android more intuitive (and therefore easier and faster to use) than iOS, and touchless controls are out of this world (insane that nobody else has implemented them), but the iPhone is a very sleek and elegant device and iOS apps are more refined almost across the board (this is the most astonishing aspect to me, having been without an iOS device for almost 3 years). I think I'll have to find a way to justify keeping both (sucks though to have to move the SIM around...and getting two lines seems crazy).

One thing I noticed that most may not be aware: by default the camera is set to widescreen on the Moto X, 8-9 Mpix. To get the far more reasonable 3:2 format at 13 Mpix you gotta go into the camera settings.

Center is cognac, right is natural.

Got my black plastic back today. It is a fingerprint magnet.

Standard black? So it's different than the OG x standard black?

On a side note, my local Verizon store didn't have any in stock nor a display yet. Little odd since a lot of people are saying their stores had them. Anyone else?

I received the phone today, two and a half weeks before the original estimation. This the non-exaggerated initial impression of the hardware and software of the phone:

Been playing with it all day just plugged it in to charge finally. It's so sexy, feels great in the hand and it is so freakin fast, virtually no delay opening apps. Opened up madden mobile and it was like playing a completely different game. Everything was so fluid and looked great on the big screen.Spent most of my time customizing my launcher so I have barely even scratched the surface of all the other features, can't wait to test it out some more. One thing I did notice though is that it did get a bit warm after a while.

Hey, much better than your avatar response! Glad you're liking it. What stands out the most about the phone?
The design, it's so well put together. Very little "tolerance". Slightly better quality control compared to the first one. I think this is helped by the metal frame so the gaps are more seamless than previously. The gap at the metal frame mean it won't feel as comfortable as the original, but it's still good to hold if you have the soft touch or leather material. I have the wood back so it's more slippery. It look like a very premium phone, more than any other on the market right now. While this might seem like a stretch since I'm a fan of Motorola, I have used the M8 and G3, and the M8 despite feeling nice in the back, it's not as flush all around especially in front where I think is just messy, honestly I feel the metal on it is a bit cheap. I have no issue with the size personally and my hand are small.
