Whatsapp restore issues

Hi everyone,

I trust you are all well.

Just moved from iPhone to Android. I backed up my whatsapp chats on iPhone using the Settings -> Chats -> Chat Backup option.

However when I install Whatsapp in my S8+, it restores only some of the messages, and it seems a backup from earlier this year - everytime i uninstall and reinstall whatsapp on my S8+, it just keeps using this old backup - rather than the new one from iPhone.

How do I solve this issue?

Thank you in advance.

Best,

Andy

Where does the old backup come from?
Usually, WhatsApp backs up chat history to local storage and Google Drive on Android devices. As far as I know, the WhatsApp backup on iPhone is more likely on iCloud.
When you reinstall WhatsApp on your S8+, the app would try searching backups from Google Drive(priority) and local memory.
So, it seems impossible to do the transfer through uninstall/reinstall.

Hi Thacy,

Thank you for replying back.

That's precisely the problem. iPhone backed up to iCloud and Android just keeps search google drive - and uses a local backup.

I need to either:
1) Transfer the iPhone backup to my S8+ phone
or
2) Transfer the iPhone backup to Google drive backup.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Andy

Hi Andy

Sadly, I don't think either of the two options is possible. However, you may try to transfer chat history from iPhone to S8+ with WhatsMate, a tool that costs money.
