I noticed the other day that WhatsApp is a 'power intensive' app on my phone. I tried to close it but every time I go back to battery settings its still there. Is that right? Surely it can be closed when not in use.

It has to run a background process in order to receive messages as they're sent. I'd just turn off the power-intensive app warning for it.

Also, check your backup settings in WhatsApp. Are they set to 'daily' and/or 'cellular'? This could be another cause for the warning you are getting.
