When will Google fix Android's fragmentation?

Maybe I should look into it. I will let you know how it goes. But I'm a little nervous. What if he doesn't have the answers. Maybe I should ask the Oracle. Yes I should do that.

The oracle is alright too, but she doesn't have a hotline.
Aaanyway, I don't have a while lot more to contribute here I think. It's getting a bit too adversarial for my taste. Regarding mobile devices and OSes, I think people should try what they want to try and use what they want to use. There's no right answer, and we're not really covering any new ground with these topics, so I'm going to bow out. See you all around the forums!

T-Mobile is better than Sprint. Sprint is the worst among the four major carriers

Honestly, there is no contest in choosing a carrier--at least, not one that anyone other than a carrier will win--so stop treating it like a contest. We all lose. There are trade-offs to make with all of the carriers.
If you look at data from both jdpower and consumer reports you will find that Sprint is ranked at the bottom of the pile. I go by the data not by anecdotal evidence
Market share means nothing. It is the profit share that counts. Apple and Samsung dominate profits. No other Android handset makers makes as much profits and some lose money.

I don't think the S3 not getting updated has anything to do with fragmentation. It's over two years old at this point, and that's usually the limit for updates on any phone. The Galaxy Nexus didn't get Kit Kat, and the Nexus 4 didn't get factory images for the L preview.
The Galaxy nexus didn't get Kit Kat because it uses a TI Omap CPU which TI has stop making for a while now.
Sprint is Horrible Period though .... wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole
You know the one thing Google can do now is push for OEMs to offer 2 plus years of OS updates on flagship phones.
Other thing is I believe OEMs don't want to upgrade your OS that often. If your two year phone has the latest and greatest, it might discourage you from upgrading.
Except for Gaming, I would be surprised if my S4 couldn't run whatever Android OS that comes out in 2016. The only thing my S4 would lag behind would be gaming, but everything else would be fine.

Samsung is not Android because Samsung is not the one that actually makes Android. This is common sense to most people, but Apple people cannot seem to wrap their heads around this concept. Samsung cannot come out with new versions of Android. It has to build on whatever Google produces.
40% is not even a majority of the platform. There was a time when Motorola was the king of Android too...things change. There is nothing magical about Samsung. If something better comes along in the Android world, people will switch to it. The only reason Samsung is still here at all is because they make good hardware. It's not because of any loyalty to Samsung as a company. And definitely not because of touchwiz.
Why does it need to be sold in large numbers to be a viable choice? You tell me.
It's a phone, not a status symbol or jewelry.
Verizon is the only carrier it's not on. And yes, you can get it on Contract. I know for sure T-Mobile sells it on contract. But most people don't need to get it on contract because it is sold at a reasonable price and does not require you to take out a mortgage to buy it.

I will say that I vastly prefer Motorola devices to any other Android device. I considered the M8 for a while but it is A.) Too tall and B.) Too heavy.
For Carrier I always choose Verizon, I get amazing coverage everywhere I go and I have CDMA network which is the best for building penetration and is much stronger than GSM.
As far as a Fragmentation goes. I don't care about it, Google has gotten netter with it and it is an argument for die hard fans to argue about not me. Average consumer a don't care about updates and I don't really care either.
As far as malware goes, I don't care in the slightest about it because it is always brought up by someone who does not use Android and is trying to say something that is a slaw with Android and malware is not a flaw right now.

Marketshare is what leads to profitshare. Even Apple can see that, which is why they are changing their policy. Google is catching up rapidly on App revenue. It rose 3 times faster than Apple's did last year. Apple is not stupid enough to ignore the implications of that.

...at the moment. You keep clinging to the idea that it will stay this way forever. But it never does. At one point Apple led in marketshare on phones, then lost that. They led marketshare in tablets, then lost that. I remember Apple people on here saying these things would never happen, but they did.
Profits are no guarantee that the product will remain dominant. There are numerous examples of this from the past. Where is Blackberry now? Where is Nokia now? They both used to dominate this industry.

Has unlimited data like T-Mobile and is more affordable than At&t and Verizon. They also have that Framily plan and they are the only CDMA carrier to take the Nexus 5. So they do a lot more than the big 2 but T-Mobile has then pretty much beat, though I will say Sprint has more voice and data coverage than T-Mobile. It may be slower but they do have more coverage.

The devices are made by existing OEMs...the last 2 were made by LG, and I think the one before that was Samsung. The first one was HTC.
The OEMs actually design the hardware and support the warranty for it. Google controls what software goes on it and what features it has (so the Nexus 5 has an OIS camera and no SD and Vanilla Android because that is how Google told LG to design it...but LG themselves actually made all the parts and put them together).
So all the software support is done through google. It pushes updates and patches and upgrades directly to the devices itself. The OEM is not involved at all.
Any Hardware issues go through the OEM. So if I need warranty service (for example ) on my Nexus 5, that goes through LG. If I have insurance, it would go through my provider. If I bought the phone through a carrier, the carrier might provide that too. But Google is not involved with it.
