Where are you getting your Xoom?

Where will you buy your Xoom?

I don't know if I'm going to VZW any longer, just got off the phone with them and if their attitude is any indication of their service they don't deserve my $800 + activation crap fees.

LOL, just to clear the air about costco i've done a lot of business with them. You have 90 days in the store for warranty, plus the one year verizon warranty as long as you keep your service.

Costco writes a rebate for activation fees.

If they do what they did with the galaxy tab it will be $10 cheaper than everywhere else, and you'll get the rebate.

Costco does not do pre-orders, holds, or reservations. They'll set it aside for large items (furniture large) but you have to buy it first. If a rep promised you a device of any sort they're violating their companies policy, you may get screwed, and they might get fired.

I actually am not sure if it applies to something like the XOOM, since a contract of some sort is involved. I was told you have only 14 days for a full refund and 90 days for an exchange of some sort.

If you shop at Costco regularly the $850ish should be easy to spend in a few months.

I found this on Costco website. I assume this applies for things purchased in store as well. Hopefully this clears up any confusion. You have 90 days to get your $799 back, but if you had data for three months you'd still owe that. If you bought it on contract you'd owe cancellation fee etc.

Costco.com's return policy for any Wireless Advocates merchandise obtained through this website is 90 days from the original date of purchase. You must ship your merchandise back to Wireless Advocates for a full refund. Merchandise should not be returned to a Costco store. All returns must be accompanied by a return authorization form which can be obtained from our Customer Service Team. Our distribution center is not able to process refunds for returns received without a return authorization.

Within 90 days you may receive a refund on the handset itself. However, you will still be responsible for any applicable early termination fees if service is canceled after the Trial Period. The Trial Period varies by carrier and State. See carrier Cancellation Policy for details.

When chatting with the kiosk guy in Costco today, he indicated that as this was a Verizon product, their return policy would be in place - not Costcos. He handed me a Verizon sheet that states:
Important Information
You can cancel service within 14 days of accepting the Customer Agreement without having to pay an Early Termination Fee as long as you return any equipment you purchased at the time you accepted the agreement. THIS SUPERSEDES ANY CONFLICTING PROVISIONS IN YOUR CUSTOMER AGREEMENT.

Granted, this guy didnt know much about the Xoom etc. It may not be till tomorrow before we are really sure what the return policy is on this thing. Given it is not subsidised, the above policy doesnt really make a lot sense.

What kind of attitude did they give you?

It seemed like I should have bowed and had honor just because they picked up the phone in the first place, the lady didn't want to give me any information about anything, let alone ask someone who may have been in the know about the Xoom.

She couldn't of cared less about the phone call. It was very different from the EVO, both sprint & rs were top notch with phone calls the week prior to it's release and very customer friendly.

That store will probably get them, but the thought of going there and giving them $800 plus all the other stuff to pay her salary is kind of a turn off.

All I wanted to know was if I should go there at open tomorrow to get one, that's it. I was friendly and even asked how she was doing at the start of the call.

The in-store reps (no offense to anyone who may be one here) can be real jerks, I've dealt with that a lot. Phone reps tend to be much more polite and willing to work with you. Unfortunately, that is a moot point when your plan is to go in and purchase it face-to-face.

That's essentially incorrect...

You're bound to any Verizon contract that you sign, but that doesn't apply to the device itself. It's the same with phones: Costco gives a 90-day return policy on the phone, but if you return it and cancel your Verizon contract (after 30 days in California, 14 days in some other states) then you're subject to whatever ETF Verizon wants to charge.

For the Xoom, since there's no contract beyond the month-to-month, you can return the Xoom and not be subject to any Verizon penalties because there's no contract to worry about (unless there's an ETF for a month-to-month contract, which I don't know).

I'm planning on buying at Costco with my Amex card: 90-day return, and an extra year of warranty via Amex.

In terms of insurance plans, the big difference is that Verizon's has a $129 deductible, whereas Best Buy has no deductible. You can do what you said, by activating service for the sole purpose of the insurance (assuming they don't catch you), but the combination of that one month ($10) and the deductible already puts you $30 over the cost of the one year Best Buy insurance policy (the real one, not the standard one).

Thank you for the info as well. I did not know that the cost of the insurance deductible was that high. I was only referring to lets say if the screen messes up or something that required you to return it to Verizon manufacturer defects specifically. Then all you need to do is take it back into Verizon and have them replace it instead of needing to return it to Motorola which you would have to do after the 90 days at Costco or 30 days if you did not buy the Warranty from BB.

I just stopped in my local VZW, and they have 10 ready to sell. I will be at the door @ 9am with cash in hand.

13 hours to go...........
