I am thinking of replacing my 2017 pixelbook with a new samsung galaxy chomebook or asus chromebook flip. I know that samsung and asus are notorious for not updating or late updates their android phones and do not want this to be the case for my chromebook. Do they get their updates from the manufacturer or from google? I do not want to rely on samsung or asus to put out timely updates.

Welcome to Android Central! Chromebooks are different from Android phones -- all updates get pushed by Google. The timing of the updates can differ somewhat between different Chromebooks, though, depending on the chipset they use, but the difference is never more than a couple of weeks or so.
