Like another poster, I created an account to say: holy crap, thank you!

Why the hell it doesn't just ask for the permission the first time you hit "download" is beyond me...

You are awesome, I've this problem for so long.. searched other places and asked at best buy.. No one had the solution.
Thank you.

Thank goodness I eventually found this site and a solution! Thank you. So simple once you know!!!

I came up with an easy workaround after being equally frustrated. I go to Google, then go to Yahoo -- find my image & download it. I appears in Gallery -- no problem!

Welcome to Android Central! Are you accessing Yahoo from the Google search app? In that case, you're most likely jumping from the Google search app over to the browser in order to open the Yahoo website. That's why the images are downloading fine -- your browser already has Storage permission turned on. The issue in this thread is for people who are trying to download images directly with the Google search app (in which case it's a simple matter of turning on Storage permission for the Google app in the system settings).

I personally noticed that when the photo has the motion thingy with it, and you click "download", it will always not be able to open the file, and I can never find it on "my files" app in my samsung phone. What you need to do is click the button "export" next to the download button. It gives you the choice to download the photo, or the motion photo which is basically downloaded in the form of a video. Also, when it downloads, it usually appears in the photos app of your phone with the specific date that is attached to the photo, so if the photo was from 2018, you need to scroll down in your photos app until you get to 2018 photos, and it will appear there. For normal photos without motion and videos, the "download" button works fine. I am writing this in 2020 btw, so things clearly changed from first this thread started

on my galaxy s8, when i am in the google app and i hit "download image" it downloads the image but i cannot for the life of me figure out how to find the image. it's not visible in the google photos or samsung gallery apps and looking through the file structure i cannot find it anywhere. i get a notification from download manager telling me that it is downloaded, and i know it's being saved because if i download a second copy it appends a -1 to the filename but i cannot figure out how to access the images whatsoever. where are my images?

Fixed at least for me...

I was having the exact same problem. Finally this fixed it for me. I have a Huawei p20 pro

Open the files app.
Bottom right select settings
Turn off hide small images in categories
Turn on show hidden files
Turn on show hidden media files
Click on categories - bottom middle
Select internal storage
Here you should find a download file with all those missing pictures
I selected the first one and then drop tab select all
Then selected move, new folder, named it downloaded, select move

Now I can see that downloaded file inside of my photos app

Hope this helps
