A squirrel who posed for me this morning. This was a hopeful point-and-shoot at 2X Zoom.
I loved that squirrel!
What an interesting looking squirrel. I've never seen any squirrel with a white tail.We have a mix of red, black, and gray squirrels here in northern IL. This summer we saw a first: a white tailed squirrel.
Upon further inspection, we found that it was a red squirrel with a white tail. A trip to Google informed that the white tail is a genetic trait that can just show up, and if a female gets it, she will pass it on to her offspring. No clue if this one is a male or female, but if we see a bunch next year or the year after, we'll know. View attachment 347221

Are black squirrels common in your neck of the woods?
They are not common in Cleveland, Ohio, but they are all over the place in Kent, Ohio.
