Which uses less battery - WiFi or 3G?

Does anyone else have the issue where the battery doesn't sleep during and or after wifi use? air plane toggle use to fix but doesn't anymore.

Is really annoying after using wifi every time that the phone won't sleep.

Hey just wondering, which ROM do you use where you only lose 1% battery/hour, because I would love to have that kind of battery life.

Baked Snack 1.6. Not having Froyo sucks but until the 2.2 APIs are released the battery life with Froyo roms is too short for me. Baked Snack typically gets me 12-14 hrs with moderate use at max brightness, but the most impressive gain is when the phone is idle - on days of light use (only texting or short phone calls / web browsing), it can still have 50% left after 14 hours. If I unplug my phone fully charged in the evening and let it idle all night long (WiFi on) it will only lose maybe 5-6% by the next morning.

That's pretty impressive. Do you have Auto-Sync and Background Data enabled as well?

Yes, but I have my sync schedule set pretty infrequently: two hours for weather updates, six hours for RSS feed refresh, six hours for FB feed refresh, and I don't have my Email pushed to me at all (I have my e-mail notifications forwarded through text).

Well, I didn't have wifi in my house b/c I thought I would just use the hotspot or my 3g or 4g (in chicago it works) service....but eventually I decided the hotspot was a complete battery drain and i got my wifi/dsl back in my house. Now my phone connects to the wifi when i'm home. Without a doubt, my phone battery life has doubled, if not tripled by using the wifi in my house instead of using 3g or 4g. I've had my phone since it was launched and never really used wifi before and always had a hard time getting this battery to last beyond 10-15 hours...now with wifi, I can go a full day without needing to charge. Wifi is much better for the battery life - with my phone at least. i'm not rooted or anything.

overnight I usually toggle sync off or I put my phone into to airplane mode. That helps conserve battery
