White screen with green stripe at top flashes on my screen

Trying to figure out what and why I get a very quick flash on the screen of my S7 Edge.

I will be doing something, texting, reading news, whatever and my screen very quickly turns white with a green bar across the top, then reverts back to what I'm doing. It happens so fast that the only thing I can see is what I mentioned here.

I will restart the phone, go back to what I was doing and it will happen again after maybe 30 seconds or so. It is random, doesn't happen all the time, but will just suddenly do it. When I reboot it usually will repeat as many times as I restart the phone, unless I restart, then don't use it.

It's been doing it for many months and drives me nuts! I need to know what is causing it, what it is. I am suspecting maybe I've been hacked, something tracking me, who knows?

I have no idea how to find out what this is, so I'm turning to you folks in hopes someone can help me.

Phone is not modded in any way, Canadian in Alberta with Telus. I bought the phone outright with no contract.

Thank you

Welcome to Android Central! I agree -- it sounds like a hardware issue with the screen. The screen itself might be failing, or it could just be an issue with the connector. You'd have to bring it to a repair shop to diagnose further.

Hi guys,
Thanks for your replies.

Mustang, it turns out I am already a member. I joined some time ago, posted something and then didn't come back regularly. After a bunch of trial and error, heavy on the error I figured out my login credentials and here I am. And I appreciate the welcome anyways!

Back to the phone issue, I thought maybe a hardware issue but the problem is so precise and exact every time, thus leading me to think there is perhaps something loading itself, causing the screen to flash momentarily. That being said, I did drop the phone when it was less than a year old, face down on the concrete. Smashed it badly. Cost me a fortune to have a techie to replace the screen.

After it was repaired I did experience some locking up issues and some other glitches, but pulling my 128 gig card and replacing it with a 64 cured that. The 128 had some corruption. Might have been a 64, replaced with 32, I forget. Couple years ago now. Phone worked fine until a few months ago when this flash in the screen started.

Impossible to get a screenshot, as it is all over in half a second. My thought was to take a video with another device, then do a screen grab.
I'm certainly not a guru, but I do know my way around electronic stuff a bit more than the average guy. It just seems like something is loading itself, or launching something in the background.
And something I forgot to mention is that sporadically, something is sucking hard on the battery. Not all the time, but about half the days. I frequently have to charge it late afternoon.

Again, thanks for your input.

Well welcome back after a little break:)

Can try this in safe mode see if still happening.

Also make sure you don't have anything in developer settings on like animation off or anything else

When you notice the battery drain, check the battery stats to see if any app or service is using an unusual amount of battery.

Also, if the problem happens relatively frequently, see if it also happens in Safe Mode.

I do have developer settings turned on, has been for some time. Think I got in there and turned it on after this issue started, but not sure. I'll poke around further. I generally like to have most stuff turned off or disabled. Don't like all kinds of junk jumping in my face.
Should I perhaps have Dev settings turned off?

Hadn't thought about using safe mode. Thanks for the thought.

So I turned off Developer Settings, closed everything, restarted the phone. Problem still perists. I timed it, it's not about 30 seconds as I originally guessed, it's a little less than 2 minutes, but still there.

Restarted in safe mode, havent seen it happen again yet. Been about 10 minutes now. I restarted twice in case I missed it. Have to stare at the screen steadily or can miss it.

I guess this is a start....

See what recent app maybe you installed causing this

Yeah, pretty much sure it's not there in safe mode.
Ran it 3 times while doing texting and such. No sign of it.
Terminated safe mode, waited a short while and it was back.

This has been going on for many months now. Gonna have to try to figure out and remember what the last app was I installed....

Well, no joy on trying to figure this thing out.
I was really hoping to find a way to figure out whats causing it.
One annoying thing is when I go in there and disable something, it turns itself back on again right away...
