Whitestone dome glass finger print sensor not working.

That is good information. Thanks. So, given some like me have seen no difference between before and after this would seem to point to installation issues for some. Unless there are quality control problems at WSD and the glass of the protector differs from one to another. I think two things are possibly being seen here. Some, like me, have dry fingers that make the FPS finicky with or without the WSD, but got a good installation that works the same after as before. Others have FPS problems that were not there before the installation of the WSD. That could be installation process itself or maybe something about their fingerprints is harder to read with the addition of the glue and glass? Or as I said, maybe glass quality control?

Mine was 100% before the install as long as I moistened my thumb and is 100% after, as long as I moisten, (or breathe on), my thumb. Moistening the finger is a pain but seems to work for many. If Samsung could somehow tweak the software to make the sensor less sensitive to dry fingers that might help a lot with the issues that are not a direct result of installation or glass quality.

Moistening my thumb does make it work 100% for sure without issue, but I didn't have to do that before installing the glass, the FPS just worked every single time. So, at least for me, it's the glass. I have installed so many of these over the years so I know it's not an install error.

So I want to share a method I just used that really improved the fingerprint reader for me.

I had a perfect install but the fingerprint sensor just didn't work too well. So I bought another 2 pack and tried a different method. My theory is you need to get the glass pushed down as much as possible and the weight that come in the box matters.

This is what I did:

1)The first time you drop the screen protector on so the liquid spreads, I left the weight on for 10 minutes

2) After doing the 15 seconds top, middle and bottom; I placed the weight back on for another 10 minutes.

3) After doing the final curing 120minutes top and bottom and 15 seconds middle; I placed the weight back on for an hour.

Its about a near night and day difference so much quicker and accurate

For a whitestone dome? If yes, what weight?

I did not do exactly that but did push down on the fingerprint area for 1 minute or so after the 15 second cure. Maybe that is why mine is the same after the WSD as before?

I think I mentioned this somewhere but my FPS required a moist thumb even before I put on the WSD. It was not any worse after the WSD installation.
The sensor on the back of the phone was so much better.

I thought about that but I was afraid I may push down too hard and the glue would be uneven. The weight stick included is perfect. I think the key is the bond between the screen protector and screen has to be tight for the fp to work well. Now it's like I just tap the fp area and it let's me in.

The key is being patient with the install. This is my third install.

^^^^I believe he is talking about the clear bar thing with the WSD^^^^

Thanks. Forgot about that being an actual weight. I know the AMF has the little circular weight. I have also read people push down on the FPS area as Will_t noted.

If these items work you would hope WSD has people reviewing comments on the net and their engineers trying them out to give better instructions to install their devices. Maybe that is just a dream I had, but a person can always hope.

I forget which phone it was, but Whitestone did include "apply pressure with your thumb for xx seconds" in their instructions (been doing that ever since with no issues)

This is what I did as well then cured it.

Just got in the AmFilm kit and one difference I did notice on the glass is there are two little bumps (back side of glass) on each side of the fingerprint scanner area. These are the same little clear bumps like on the edges and sides of the WSD.

Still have the WSD on but may change it out next week.

I noticed those on the WSD and wondered what they were?

The way you describe the dots on the AmFilm, (if by back of the glass, you mean the side facing in to the screen?), it seems like they would create space between the protector and the reader? The AmFilm does not use a liquid adhesive, correct? Why the bumps then? Curious. If you mean on the outside of the glass, facing out, then maybe they are just tactile so you know where the FPS is located?

This is the AmFilm glass is just like the WSD with adhesive. The bumps are on the inside/glue side of the glass.

Then maybe they are to create a small space for adhesive to be sure to flow between the screen FPS and the AmFilm. Maybe to make sure there are no gaps or glass to glass contact? I can't think of any other reason they would put bumps to create separation?

The do make self-stick glass protectors for flat screen phones. Only the curved screen appear to require the liquid glue application.

This is right its because if the curved edges. I actually like the curved edged because it feels good swiping from the side.

Whitedome does work well but it takes patience and sometimes multiple tries.

@felloffthetruck

Let me know how the AM glass works out for you. I bought this but after a couple weeks the glue around the fingerprint seemed to leave a mark. It bothered me so I bought the WSD and installed it today. I don't know why, but maybe some correlation with putting the weight on it....I put the 2nd one too, but it left the same faint mark.
