Who got fed up of waiting?

I keep coming back to the fact I can't top the nexus 4. The 3 best phones on at&r are the Galaxy s3, HTC one x+, and LG Optimus G. The s3 has touchwiz, outdated version of android, the weakest screen of the 3, and Samsung crap plastic. The one x+ has the most up to date os and best build quality, but sense, s off bs, and dated hardware. The Optimus G has the best hardware but a pesky locked bootloader and an outdated os. At any rate they are all $550 for me, and I need wifi tethering, and I'd have to root to get that, and I can't speak for the Optimus, but the other 2 have detection methods to tell if they've been tampered with. The nexus 4 meets my needs and sadly I'm just gonna have to wait.

I think I actually will change my opinion. I read more about the N4 and i was under the impression it had a dual core, and 1 GB of Ram. I don't know why I thought that, but yeah the quad core w/2 GB of RAM is better than I thought it was. However, you gotta get away from that "cheap Samsung plastic" garbage. There's not a chance in H that Samsung would sell so many millions of devices if it was as cheap as people say it is. It's a freaking solid device.

Almost all phones are made of plastic, and plastic is plastic unless it's Glock's polymer.

Um yeah, I had 4 Samsungs in a row before my vivid, if anyone knows, it's me. And I could never make it 6 months without making a warranty claim, while my vivid is 9 months strong showing no signs of breaking. Most recently I had a captivate, it appeared to be built well but 6 months in my loudspeaker broken, and 3 months with the refurb I got from making a warranty claim, power button died.

Samsung is okay, but the nexus 4 looks world's ahead of the gnex in build quality. Main difference now for me is their custom rom counter, my captivate didn't have that stuff, if it broke, plug it to a pc, run heimdale or Odin one click, and head to an at&t store. I don't wanna have my power button break on my new s3 and cm10 installed and then just be out $550

As for the nexus 4,returning to stock is cake, and no tracking methods so if it breaks, call up google, install factory image, and relock

Ok I played with the s3 today, I'll be fair, they stepped up the build quality this time around, it's pretty solid, but the ui sucks. Touchwiz lags like crazy

Nice. Congrats on picking a slightly better phone with a much better camera :) gotta admit that N4 looks tasty though.

Sorry to break it to you but you have it backwards: the NEXUS is the slightly better phone.

Don't get me wrong, the S3 is a nice bit of kit. My brother owns one but he's also salivating over my Nexus, cursing me for being so lucky to actually own one, ahaha! :D

I've used his S3 at length. Sorry, N4 wins.

LTE seems nice, but as a straight talk customer, it isn't offered. If they did offer it, they don't offer enough data usage to make it worth while.

I wouldn't mind hearing from someone who sees LTE as a must have feature. What are you able to download on your phone with the additional network speed that is problematic with HSPA+? Are you using your phone as your sole network connection? Even tethering my iphone 4, I've never feel I needed additional bandwidth, but I only use it for work. When my father came to visit me in Austin, he was excited to finally get to use LTE. But it seemed limited to walking around, doing bandwidth testing; getting that smug satisfaction that you have bandwidth on par with cable providers.

I guess what I'm asking is... Is anyone take advantage of LTE right now, or is it something you see as preparation for the coming years as media density increases?

I had the S3 and it's a nice phone. I missed it until I got the N4. I hate touchwiz also and rooted my S3 and put a AOKP Rom on it. When you do that it puts the S3 on the Nexus 4's level IMO. Having said that, I still would take the N4 over the S3 but that's just me.

Yeah I never cared much for touchwiz when I had a captivate and the contacts don't sink with Google right. When I put cm7 on it, all my names to my contacts synced up but the data was all gone

Oh and far as lte goes I see it as the future but it's pointless right now on a gsm network. You can't get near the speeds with hspa +but does it matter? Most at&t users average around 7mbps, which is plenty fast for a phone and with a limited data plan the extra speed of lte literally does nothing

I have a quick question for you: What are you transferring to your phone on a daily basis that requires an SD card or some other transferable storage alternative? Maybe I'm ignorant, but I don't know of anything I'd do that with.

Im a music producer. I transfer high quality audio files daily. I see your point though.. i suppose if you don't need the most efficient wayon a phone to keep data portable you aren't settling. Everyone's different, and the Nexus4 does have a great price.

I'm still going to wait but at this rate I probably won't be seeing one until March. I really don't intend to order it until there is no "6-7 week shipping". I know I will end up waiting longer this way, but I won't order until I can submit the order and get the phone in a week or less. My iPhone 4s is still perfectly functional so I'm not going to stress. I do wonder how many orders Google has lost due to the limited stock available. There are probably a lot of people who decided to "settle" for their second choice and got a GS3 or something. Its a shame, especially right before Christmas, that they couldn't orchestrate this launch more effectively.

I simply can't order. I usually get $500 in Christmas cash but it's not guaranteed so I'm waiting on that. Assuming I get it I'll probably place an order and wait it out. Just after my vivid experience I really don't care for carrier phones anymore

I'm still waiting to order one for me and the gf. Got a nexus 7 the other day and its making me want the nexus 4 even more! Hoping we get stock in the UK soon, coming up to 3 weeks now since we last had stock, has everyone in the UK got theirs from the initial sale now?

See, here's where you projecting your needs onto others. Using me as an example again, there is nothing settling about the Nexus 4. I've never once in my life used an SD card slot on a phone. Never. I've had phones that had them, but never needed it. And I still don't need it, so there is no settling for me. I understand what you're saying and that use of the phone would be settling for you, and that for you, the GSIII is a better phone. That makes sense, for you. But for me, it doesn't. The N4 does everything I need a phone to do, and more, and it does it at a fraction of the cost of other phones. So for me, it is the best option. For me.

I have a quick question for you: What are you transferring to your phone on a daily basis that requires an SD card or some other transferable storage alternative? Maybe I'm ignorant, but I don't know of anything I'd do that with.

I find your arguments to be somewhat unrealistic. I know what you are saying and most posts are saying the same thing. The phone that works best for you is the best phone. But when you compare the S3 and N4 side by side the S3 covers more bases. We could argue all day about why some of these things are of no benefit to you or I, but the reality is that Samsung has and is doing a better job of delivering a complete product. There are very few things that you can say are horrible about the S3. Where as the Nexus 4 does have some major things that people will have to live without. Maybe that's okay, but the comparison has to be done without personal bias in order to give all users a good idea of what each device can do. SD support, removable battery, camera quality and LTE are big items that many people want. Add in that Samsung is prioritizing OS updates about as good as anyone and the Nexus 4 really only has a few things to offer that the S3 doesn't do quite as well.

I think what we should also be asking ourselves is what will the S4 be offering in the very near future.

This all being said... The software benefit of the Nexus 4 is huge and for nerds like us makes the Nexus 4 the only choice. This is why I'm buying one :p

this is me posting from my speech to text on my Nexus 4. sorry for the thread hijack but I just wanted to see if my sentence would be correct and it is ;)

Another reason you should wait for it to come back on sale

Love that but my SGS2 does the same thing.

I have a Galaxy s3 on sprint but was looking to switch carriers since my signal here is crap. I placed an order for the nexus 4 mostly for the price but I'd be waiting until January or so to get it. I don't know. Might just try to pick up a gs3 used. Was hoping to switch sooner rather than later and I do love this phone.

I am running an app which should alert me when the store opens again.

The US seem to have had 2 days when it was possible to order.
In the UK it was available for less than an hour.

No update since then. Google are failing to manage customer expectations.

I too have been looking around. The biggest problem is the time it takes for manufacturers to release updates and the costs.
