Who here still has unlimited data?

Really each person should do an analysis of the plans available to see what is the best for them. While it is generally true that unsubsidized is cheaper, it is not always the case. My situation is certainly in the minority, but I have 5 lines of service with 2 smartphones, one with unlimited unthrottled 4GLTE, and 3 dumb phones on Verizon 550 minute family share plan and pay $140/mo total for 5 lines before taxes, fees, and discounts. The closest plan on T-Mobile's Unsubsidized option would be $130 per month before taxes, fees and discounts. T-Mobile does offer more than Verizon does, but on stuff that I don't need. Note that I am on a legacy plan, which is not available for new customers, however, you can assume liability of legacy plans, which may cost a bit up front, but may be worth it in the long run, depending on your usage. Just to do a comparison of what I use, T-Mobile costs $1,860 MORE than Verizon over 2 years.

Verizon
$3,360.00 =$140.00/mox24(Monthly Fee for 5 lines for 24 months)
$1,000.00 =$200.00X 5(Cost of Subsidized iPhones for 5 lines)
$150.00=$30.00X 5(Cost of Upgrade fee for 5 lines)

$4,510.00Verizon Total for 2 years with 5 phones

T-Mobile
$3,120.00 =$130.00/moX24(Monthly Fee for 5 lines for 24 months)
$3,250.00 =$650.00X5(Cost of Unsubsidized iPhones for 5 lines)

$6,370.00T-Mobile Total for 2 years with 5 phones

$1,860.00Total Savings by using Verizon Over T-Mobile

5 lines and I pay slightly less than $200. Got 4 upgrades available to me, and plan on using a couple to sell phones on Swappa.

Not for nothing, but even before I joined Verizon, I knew that it was never cheap. It was almost a status symbol (around NYC area) because if you had Verzon, people knew you either had money or good credit. People on other networks (T-Mobile, Sprint especially) were envious because Verizon ALWAYS had a signal. I'm talking about voice, at this point, forget data.

So yeah, people on Verizon aren't on Verizon to save money. VZW customers know it, and Verizon knows it too. If I want to save money, I'd go to T-Mobile, no questions asked. In the meantime, I'll keep Verizon, my Unlimited Data, and not be that guy/girl taking magic beans (upgrading to a phone outdated in a few weeks...any phone. lol) and keep my Unlimited Data until Verizon says otherwise. Unlimited Data on Verizon is just way too valuable...

TF is magic beans? You keep referencing that like its clever.

I like my magic beans.. Good phones and unlimited data for the cheap taste of $70 after taxes. Yum :D.

I have unlimited data and was waiting for a phone worth buying at full price to be unveiled before I made a move .

Once the Maxx came out (coming off a Bionic which was starting to show its age), I couldn't resist and shelled out $650 to get the phone so I could keep my unlimited data.

I depend on my phone for work and not having to worry about battery has seriously changed my life. I work in events and sometimes will be onsite for 35 hours + straight shift. I've never once charged this phone before bedtime. So official and such a luxury to literally not have to worry about your battery ever. On top of that, the phone is as smooth and fast as anything I've tested, despite not having totally top of the line specs. You seriously cannot make this phone lag even if you try.

Worth every penny.

Clever or no, it is the truth...whether you recognize that or not is no concern of mine. :)

So what are magic beans? You never explained what they are.

That's the thing I never had Verizon that long I got in Verizon back in 2011 with my mom so we had (2011esque) family plan. Unlimited data, and messaging with 1500 shared minutes. My mom upgraded in July to share everything. Now I want to lower the bill by changing my plan but I have to get rid of unlimited data to do so. Now I'm some kind of fiend for wanting to get rid of it now I suppose.

Eh if other carriers have the coverage it doesn't hurt. My situation calls for good coverage in my area... That's all I need. My travel is extremely limited so the occasional dead spot for data but free roaming for calls when traveling doesn't bother me. The other 99.7% of the time when I'm in my home town / city.. Unlimited talk, text, and data.. With great speeds to the tune of $70 a month after taxes.

No need to pay for Verizon if not needed. Some do need it as dpham has said.. His work coverage sucks royally for all carriers except Verizon... So.. It's a good reason to keep em.

Carriers always... Always.. Boil down to the specific person and also majorly on where they are... Some carriers (Like T-Mobile) suck in certain areas.. Others it great. The same can be said for any carrier. I know for Verizon it's rare but I've seen some say AT&T has better coverage in their area versus Verizon.

So.. Yep :D.

Well, it's a Jack and the Beanstalk reference. Jack's mom, father, uncle, whomever (whichever variant you read), gives Jack a cow to go sell in the market for money. Jack goes to the market, approaches an old man who has no money, but has these "magic beans" that will give him riches. So Jack takes them and goes home, and his _____ gets mad and throws the magic beans out. Beans turn into a beanstalk, it gets climbed by Jack, some adventure with a giant happens, and Jacks ends up with a goose that lays golden eggs.

So the correlation to the "magic beans" in this discussion was that the upgrade Verizon pushes is the magic beans. The Unlimited Data is the cow. But the only difference is, unlike Jack and the Beanstalk, that trade really is a bad deal. However, I wasn't trying to make you look like a "fiend." If you want to take the upgrade, do it. Just that me and others find unlimited data to be more valuable than whatever phone Verizon wants people to upgrade.

You know, every time I have called Verizon for some billing issue (like getting rid of this fee, or that fee), they start yapping about "Oh my sir, I see you have four upgrades. Would you like to upgrade to a phone today?" Or the "Let's analyze your data usage so we can put you garbage tiered plan." I told a rep "I can use 1MB (that's MEGABYTE...not GIGABYTE) a month...I will still want to keep my unlimited data." They tend to...stay quiet after that. And also, I can respect that you want to save money, but again a lot of us don't need to. We want Verizon and we want Verizon's unlimited data. But if you need to save money, and stay on Verizon, then do what's best for you. I will stay with unlimited data until Verizon takes it away...then I go T-Mobile. (Not even so much a cost savings, but a friend of mine does work for them, so I'd give him commission. :D )

I do travel...whether it's an hour away or two driving or a few hours on a plane...I find myself in some metropolitan area. In fact, I was just over in Orlando not too long ago, and Verizon was sweet. Jacksonville...all I can tell you was that I was able to still get Youtube on the phone...though it might have been 3G...this was last December (and November...)

I think Verizon may be bad in rural places like Wyoming or Montana or something like that. (Though if you guys want to chime in to confirm or deny, please be my guest...)

And... That's why you like Verizon. I'm just saying it varies person to person from you to the OP and me.

Also.. I live in Jacksonville so Verizon isn't anything special here.. This is where I get my great T-Mobile coverage and speeds :).

I was just saying that's why I like Verizon...wasn't to denigrate you or your choice for T-Mobile. (I think we were making the same point.)

I mentioned Jax because I remembered that's where you said you were from. I never stopped there; I usually drive through there when I'm in FL.

T-Mobile I am sure is good in certain metros. Both my buddy and you said that service has improved since the last time I was with them. If I ever needed to leave Verizon, T-Mobile is the front-runner, followed by Sprint.

Although I'll say this for you, Almeuit...you spend on awful lot of time in the Verizon forum... :p I think it's great...I'm just sayin'......

Yeah we both are basically saying the same thing.

Also I spend time in many Forums that interest me.. Mainly carrier talk and also certain phones ;).

I don't think it's his norm. My high was last month (54 GB).

I average 10-20 GB a month usually.
