Who is crazy about battery life?

I don't think so. I even did a factory reset on this thing 2 times over the past 2 weeks to see if that is what was going on. I'm at 82% now... sad. my work iphone is at 99% and i unplugged them at the same time. I just tried to explain this to verizon and they are saying that it's only "potential 48 hour battery life" at this rate it will be dead by 3 or 4pm.

I feel like i should be able to leave everything running on this thing, GPS, Bluetooth, all the radio's, have the screen brightness to 100% and have widgets galore and still make it over 24 hours. Is that too much to ask out of a 3500 battery?

Let's begin with this. Can you post a comparison of the usage from the iPhone and Droid Maxx?

1.) Are both devices on the same carrier? This matters due to signal strength, difference from GSM and CDMA, etc.

2.) Which iPhone? Are you connected to LTE with both phones or are you on Wi-Fi?

3.) Last I checked Apple doesn't allow widgets. There is no real customization. Widgets continue to update constantly thus using your internet connection which in turn drains the battery.

You can't expect the Droid Maxx to survive long under your conditions. If you turn the radio on and leave it on that means you are constantly consuming battery. How do you think Wi-Fi automatically connects instantly? Its always searching. GPS is going to use more battery than Google services for location and Bluetooth is the same as Wi-Fi in that regard. Also, you're using a 5" display at full brightness which will naturally take up more battery than the iPhone with its tkmy screen.

Verizon is correct - 48 hours is under lab testing in great signal areas. They don't have brightness set to 100% and widgets all over the place updating at will. I don't think a battery double the size could handle the work load you're asking it to. Too many variables but your battery is fine.

You can leave WiFi and Bluetooth on without much issue. It does use battery but percentages will show that its small. Still, you need to delete some widgets (if used) and turn brightness to automatic and see how much it improves.

I definitely don't have brightness set at 100 percent. Mine is on auto.

I am down five percent after 1 hour and 40 minutes, everything turned on and 30 minutes screen time.

I think that is the most obvious thing for me on this. just unplugging the MAXX after full charge and not touching it, it will drop to 90% within the hour.

to answer some of the questions above. I will test it in various situations to see if i can maximize the life of the batter, but the way i have it set up now is exactly how i had my GN2 set up and the differences are big. Maybe the idle time isn't as good on the maxx? it does seem to handle "in use" time well, I don't think i was ever able to get the GN2 to 0% before charging at night and that's happened to the MAXX on multiple occasions with not really that much screen on time.

I'll keep things posted here to let the community know if i've solved the issue. I was so hoping to be able to just turn this thing on and not have to tinker with the settings to get expected battery life. oh well. maybe in a couple years they will have this battery thing worked out.

1) yes same carrier. Verizon excellent signal in Pittsburgh, PA
2) iPhone 5, both on LTE both have wifi turned on.
3) i mentioned i wished i could have the screen up to 100% and widgets galore but i don't actually have them on like that. I have brightness set to about 75% i think and the only widget is the "switches" widget.

like i was saying before, just disappointed i think. Compared to the GN2, and my work iPhone this battery is not as good and i was so excited to be able to not stress about battery life when i got this. If i knew it was going to be like this i might have opted to keep the GN2 or wait for something later on this year. now i might be stuck with this thing (if it's not really a bum battery) for 2 years. :(

If you go into settings > Battery you should be able to see what is chewing through the battery. I'd be willing to bet that you've got MediaServer as the 1st or 2nd item in there?

There seems to be a bug that causes the MediaServer to request multiple wake locks and thus hurts the battery life. There is another thread addressing the issue here:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-maxx/315192-wakelock-problems.html

Right now it seems like the only solution is a factory reset (haven't tried this solution myself yet).

Google+ was killing my battery. Once I disabled it, I get great battery life. Make sure you are not using Google+.

This is how I have my phone except for the widgets galore (I like to have a clean look). All radios on, full brightness, LTE, WI-FI on, NO Bluetooth. Stream Google music, watch Netflix throughout the day. My battery lasts me all day. Check the battery stats and see what is using the battery. Post some pictures.

I have Google Now disabled if that's what you're referring to.

Ah okay. I wasn't sure so I made the post anyways. Remember that the battery actually stops charging at 100% on most phones that feature Lithium-Ion batteries. You can plug it in but until the phone reads around 94% it won't actually charge. This is done to prevent overcharge. This may be why the first 10% disappears so quickly. Other then that its all about brightness (75%) and what not. Monitor the battery on one of these days and snap screen shots. We'll be able to help you out. A good way to monitor this stuff is GSAM Battery Monitor from the Play Store. You should see better battery than you are if you're not overwhelming it.

I checked. it's saying system wakelock is 4.6% of battery life.
Number of wakelocks 153

not sure it's the problem. does that sound normal?

I'm willing to do a reset.. but i've done 2 to this phone already thinking i had some rogue app sucking me dry.

I think my tactic over the next day or 2 will be to see if i can turn EVERYTHING on and see how much life i get out of it.. then ramp it down to normal daily use and see if i can train it or something.

It does seem to get better in the middle of the day. when I use it more it seems to hold up. So we'll see.
I'll keep posting my findings on here.

Not me. Having some issues with my MAXX battery i think. Maybe i got one of the bad batch batteries?

Case in point, had my phone on for about an hour and a half, 23 min screen time on and i'm already at 89%. On my Galaxy Note 2 ... same usage, i would average about 2% loss... Maybe i was spoiled with the GN2? Not sure, but I'm having buyers remorse.

Yesterday it was on for 16 hours, less than an hour of screen on time, and when i went to bed the battery was at 15%. Sigh.

Have you seen this thread on Motorola's site? My guess is you have a defective phone.

I leave everything turned on on my phone (gps, active notifications, touchless control, wifi, syncing, etc.). So far I'm at 41% after 1d 18hours with 2 hours of screen time and ~75% on wifi. In this time span I uploaded a 2 minute video to facebook, used moto connect for texting (lots), 15 minutes of navigation, downloaded a couple of apps, setup BT in my car (spent ~10 minutes with issues), streamed pandora for 30 minutes, talked for almost 40 minutes, sent quite a few texts from the phone, and surfed the web for about 30 minutes:

This is my second phone (the speaker messed up on the other one 7 days ago). I've been a little skeptical with the battery life on the replacement so far as I was getting really good results with that one. I had similar usage(slightly less) just before I turned the other one in last Wed. - ~85% wifi, 1 hour of pandora, 25 minutes of navigation, 10 minutes of calls, some texting, and moto connect on the old phone :

WOW. thanks for this info. AndrewH, that is what i feel i should be getting out of my MAXX.. it that too much to ask?

I'm afraid to ask for a new phone via the "warranty" because i'm afraid i'll get another defective battery (as in someone else returned it because they didn't get what they thought they would)

So i finally killed the battery last night at 10pm. So i got about 16 hours out of it.

Right before it died i did a factory reset. and the only new app i loaded this morning after a full charge is the GSam Battery Monitor app.
It's 10:20, been unplugged since 6:30am and i'm down to 89%. Better than yesterday but still.. i have only 37 minutes of screen time ON. and AUTO Brightness on. I've barely used the phone today to just see what would happen with basically a factory install and no mods on my end.

Here are a couple screens as of right now.

Keep an eye on those numbers. Like I said the first 10% usually seems quicker then the other 90%. I'm not saying you're battery is 100% guaranteed okay but so far your stats look about right.

I guess this looks ok but with my GN2 if i did this i'd be at 98% full. same with the iPhone.

Also this is a pure NO MOD install as if i took it out of the box, turned it on and set up gmail and sat it down.
I expect to get AndrewH type of numbers from this phone using it very similarily to how he does, and not sure that can happen with this phone.
Will a "refurb" be any better if i turn it in? that's the question for me now.

Eclipse, have you had numbers like ANdrew?

Maybe that will help and I completely understand the warranty route. If things are still going south after a day or two of limited use using the Motorola link above would at least give you a shot at possibly getting a brand new one.

I ended up charging last night @25% battery with 2d 1.5 hours and 3h41m of screen time. I unplugged this morning around the same time as you with little use:

2013-09-19 10.36.18.png

I was on 4g for about 45 minutes with 1/3 of the screen time you have so far.... I was also signed into hangouts (forgot I was) which has been blowing up this morning. Not too far off thus far, but you're also on 4g which, depending on signal strength, will drain it a little faster.

I've had a Note II and can say you should get better life out of the Maxx. I've gotten over 7 hours of screen time mixed with 1 hour talk before my Maxx died completely. This was continuous use on mostly LTE with music, Chrome and video streaming.

Just remember some of this also has to do with the quality of signal you're getting too. This attached image is from after work yesterday but mostly in Wi-Fi.

Yeah that is what i expected to see from this phone and what i was used to from my GN2.
So frustrating.

Has anyone on here done a warrenty phone swap? i would like to know if the refurb phones have similar issues. There is probably no way to tell honestly as it's probably random.

I know if i take it to the store they will test it and say the battery is ok. VZW customer service has been trying to say that i can't compare my usage to others on this site because they could have rooted the phone etc. So that's a cop out IMHO.
not sure what to do.

Can trade it in? sell it and pay off the fee and go to Sprint or something? haha my options look **** poor honestly. for at least a year. :(

sorry very down about this situation. should have kept my GN2.

Test it for a few more days and add some applications. Screen time is the #1 obvious killer aside from rogue apps which don't appear to be your issue. If it fails request a replacement and go from there.

As a side note, under network preferences, you do have LTE/CDMA checked instead of Global? Its Global by default but I have heard, at least in the past with other phones, that it may effect battery negatively.

Bobby, sounds like your numbers are getting better, but if they don't improve overall I would exchange it now. Chances of getting another bad battery, I think, would be small. I did a recent test of no screen with all other services running and my battery drained one percent per hour. With normal use I drain about three percent per hour.
