The worst part about the Galaxy Alpha is that if we see it in the US it'll probably be the Snapdragon version.![]()
I am fine with that. Long as they don't touch anything else.

That's a flawed argument. How many phablets on the market flopped? Anything that ain't Samsung Note line phablets don't sell that well. If they think it is an lost cause how many phones do manufactures like Samsung and LG make? They would lose more money by actually trying? That does not make sense.

Samsung hopes 'respected older generations' will dig its new flip-phones

That's cool. But I want a flip SMART phoneBlackberry did one.
Well, that may show how smart Apple is, if they are sensitive to consumer trends (larger screens) but are still able to make consumers in your preference category happy. Sounds like a win-win for you and Apple. As an aside, I think the reason Apple has been hesitant to make larger phones is due to Jobs' earlier comments that Apple had discovered the holy grail of smartphone sizes (3.5"). Making the iPhone taller to reach 4" was arguably consistent with Jobs' vision, but now they will eat a little bit of crow if they follow the trend to larger phones.
In fact, they've already eaten crow by having lost market share to others who capitalized on another vision that has been wildly successful while Apple twiddled its thumbs and assured us that you didn't need anything else. And they experienced the same problem with the iPad and eventually had to cave and come out with the iPad mini that Jobs disdained and was so contemptuous of. It's a fine example of the pros and cons of Apple's world vision IMHO--they are innovative and shaped the market. But they are also stubborn, convinced that what they invented must be perfect and you should do it their way. The failure to make progress on screen size is IMHO clearly a key reason why Apple lost so much market share to Samsung and its cohorts.
the market decides. the people decide.
The manufacturers decide, then the people can choose.

They lost worldwide only. In the U.S., over 40% of smart phones are iPhones. Even if they lose market share outside the U.S., they still make a ton in it.
More than anything, if you actually pay attention to smartphone manufacturer market share, Chinese companies like Lenovo and Xiaomi are stepping up.
And if you noticed, Apple is the second biggest smartphone manufacturer on the planet. All you said really is that you dislike Apple for some reason.

open your eyes. the people have chosen.
No, that's actually not what I said. I just don't think the whole world revolves around Apple and they've always had, shall we say, a certain attitude. Overall, Android has obviously captured a huge part of the market that Apple arguably created, or at least made exciting for the first time. A different vision in hardware choices is a major reason why because many folks simply didn't share Apple's vision.. All you said really is that you dislike Apple for some reason.

That would be the blackberry style. I think I saw 2 of them in the wild.

and c) they are status symbols with lots of cool accessories.
Galaxy Mega is far from a flop. Made it to various carriers in the US like AT&T, Sprint, and US Cellular.
And yet I've never seen one in the wild, and not even at a kiosk or store. I see Blackberries at all our local stores, and the people over on CB are always saying their stores don't carry BB - so how unpopular does that make the Mega? Ive never seen anything bigger than a Note from Samsung. Come to think of it, I've never seen the HTC One Maxx in a store either.
