Who is To Blame for giant phones?

http://www.droid-life.com/2014/08/05/yup-moto-will-receive-android-l/

I am sure that if there are any minor updates to Android L afterwards, that the Moto X will get it.

This is an industry problem. That problem is Google 3-4 years ago and came out we will support phones our phones for 18 months and everybody started to follow.

The policy really should be, we will stop supporting phones 18 months after we stop selling the device.

I'm sure the Moto X will be supported but if I am buying a phone this year, I want it to be supported until my contract ends in December 2015.

Because of the 18 month life cycle vs 2 year contracts, no matter what phone you will get, you will have that same issue. The only way you can truly be happy is to spend money on a yearly basis. Otherwise you will have to deal with that situation with your next phone unless there is a major policy shift by the OEMs.

Than that seals it, I'll get an iPhone probably.

What in the blazes? If this is the first time you've heard this, that's odd:

If you do not care for a post, ignore it. If you feel it violates forum rules, hit the report button. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever get into petty arguments with other members. This thread has been cleaned. Let's see if we can discuss the topic rather than how we feel each other should post. Thanks!

Ok, maybe I was too brash but I forgot, when you get an iPhone you use Apples ecosystem, which I have no interest in. So I am back at square one. If Android can't do one device with good internals in a smaller form factor, maybe I'll see if a BlackBerry or Windows Phone may do one.

Then get one... You've never seemed happy with Android and threaten to get an iPhone constantly. As Nike would say, just do it.

There are several good devices under 5'... And I'm guessing that, unless they change their design drastically, even the new iPhone will be bigger than the Moto X and more similar in size to something like the Nexus 5. So if you're not going to be satisfied there either.

Lets get one thing straight, many people can recognize me as I post everywhere all the time, I am an ardent fan of Android just like anyone else, to say other is to make untrue statement. I have only threatened to leave to get an iPhone maybe twice this whole year and that is because of lack of high end devices at smaller screen sizes.

To say I constantly do something when I don't is untrue.

I do not want to leave Android, that is the whole point of this thread, I want to stay on Android, but my preferences in phones are cut down in terms of hardware choice.

If the One Mini 2 had 2GB of RAM, I would have gotten that, but 1GB of RAM concerns me as far as updates go.

Ouch, Ok for fun, I looked up some of the apps that are crucial to me on iTunes and a few of them are paid apps ranging close to $10, so I will sit here and forget getting an iPhone completely, that is crazy, so many apps are paid and quite expensive.

So for now I'll stay on my RAZR M and keep an eye on the smartphone market.

I didn't realize that a lot of the mini-phones only had 1 GB of RAM. Are you noticing that even your Moto X seemed to big when you had it?

Only reason I ask is that we are both on Verizon and I am waiting to see what the form factor is like on the X+1.

Any chance you would consider the X+1 if it was only slightly larger than the current X?

My Moto X (I still have it, it just won't turn on) never seemed bug to me, because of the curvature of the back and corners, it was very easy to handle with one hand.

The Moto X+1 can't bigger than the Moto X for me to consider it, and by the leaks it is slightly bigger so I think it may be off my lost potentials, but I may wait and see when it comes to stores, and see how I like it.

I'm sorry you can't find a phone you want, I wish you luck in finding a phone that works for you

Manufacturers make what people want, and right now people want phones larger than the size you want. Also, 0.3" is nothing to quibble about. Get a 5" phone and you will probably be surprised how easy the adjustment is.

Thanks, I'll stick with my RAZR M for now, but I am glad we were able to have an open air discussion on this.

Actually it is something to quibble about, when you get a bigger screen, you get a bigger form factor and most 5inch+ phones I have handled are not one hand friendly. I shouldn't have to "adjust" to something I don't want. But that is my personal preference.

Assuming the same 16:9 dimensions, a .3" in screen size of 4.1" x 2.3" = 4.7" would increase to 4.36" x 2.45" = 5.0". So, .26" longer and .15" wider - less than a quarter inch each direction.

This is to be expected though, because a 16:9 right triangle with a hypotenuse of .30000000 has sides of .26147266 x .14707837, give or take.

You are right, the current phones with smaller displays have lower specs than bigger displays. I know it's been mentioned before, but as it stands now it sounds like the only phone that would suit you is the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. It's specs are good. It's screen is 4.3", 20.7 mp camera, 2300 mAh battery, 2GB RAM, Snapdragon 800, 2.2 GHz, Adreno 330 etc. Even if your cell phone provider does not offer it, buy it used off Craigslist, Kijiji, or through the for sale section on forums, or buy outright factory unlocked from a Sony store.
Good Luck.

Options are limited then:

1. Adjust to a phone approx. 8mm taller and 6mm wider; or
2. Convince OEM's to make a smaller phone that fits your needs; or
3. Keep your RAZR M indefinitely.

Of the three, I would say the first is the best option but it's your choice....

You forgot option 4, which is to just wait and see what comes out.

I don't know how big your hands are but I can hold my GS5 with a screen size of 5.1 inches in one hand, and I can do certain things using one hand, but normally I rest my hand on the phone and type with my thumb
I'll be honest, sometimes I do feel like my phone is a little big, but I kinda just deal with it because I like ensign everything else about the phone

I just really hope that the GS6 isn't much bigger, a .1 inch difference like the transition between the GS4 and GS5 would probably be fine but if it went to like 5.5 inches, I'm not sure I could use it

That's the reason I wouldn't get the Galaxy Note 4, the anticipated specs look great, but it's just too big
