Only reason I remain with Samsung and their Ultra series is the S-pen. Drop it and it drops me. Probably go back to Pixel....

so you don't use any Samsung-specific apps? if not, Pixel would seem to be the choice.

Nah- I'm on cruise control with S25U 512GB for the foreseeable future.
I've used the S-Pen maybe 4 times since late January 2025 and regardless of what (sort of incremental updates) S26U offers, I'm not going there.

I came to Samsung from Pixel. In fact, still use the Pixel 4XL for taking photos of the top of my RV roof, second story gutters, etc. Attached with a long selfie stick.

i know i'll definitely get the ultra (again) because that's what i do every single year, thinking that the new firmware somehow will be more protective against malware. i don't even know if that's really true?
one would think that with each new generation, it would take the bad actors some time to catch up and find new holes in their firmware in order to do bad things. so in theory, trading in for a new phone each year would kind of leave the bad actors limited time to do bad things.
say for example, it takes the bad guys 6 months to find holes. then, that means they have only 6 months to do bad things through those holes before i would upgrade again. that cuts the time they have to potentially do bad things by half! that's significant.

No hard facts but I don't think you're necessarily getting a safer machine with a newer phone every year.
By the time Samsung releases a phone the version of Android that is included has already been out for Pixel and other phones so bad actors already have had time with the OS. If anything with new phones I imagine you have more bugs "Day one bugs" from Samsung because it's with the release of a new product and a large number of new users that you really find bugs with the software... Android, OneUI, the new hardware specs all working together and apps that crash because of the new specs. And bugs are exploits that bad actors will use to gain access into phones.
You're one year old phone could be more secure than a new phone because Samsung has had a year to make updates to OneUI, to Samsung apps through the Samsung Store as well as all the monthly Samsung updates as well as the Google security updates. It's when your phone stops being supported and getting those monthly security updates where your phone becomes less secure than a phone that is still supported.
If you are really concerned about malware, download and install BitDefender for more security. I never really know how affective it was because I don't think I've ever been hit with a malware or virus on any of my phones but I have been using it for years... maybe as far back as my S22U at least? I pay for the yearly subscription but I uses the Google Rewards app doing surveys that end up paying for the subscription every year costing me nothing.

A leaker has dropped that Samsung may not offer the free storage upgrade with pre-orders.
I'm trying to keep an open mind, but not seeing much reason to upgrade.
I'd like to see an improvement in the battery technology. That's something I could get excited about.

i find it hard to believe that pre-orders won't include free storage upgrades, as this has been the case for many years already - almost like an expected freebie!

No but I hope to get one soon! I want the new Buds pro 4 and didn't know if they were going to do a credit since they were keeping the price the same and I would rather get the free memory upgrade so I hope they are doing that also. I have a pair of buds pro 2 and 3's now I want to trade in the 2's and keep my 3's for a backup to the 4's. I need to go check my email. I use my work one cause of my discount and I already signed up for the free mystery box from Samsung Guru.

OMG! I hope we get the free memory upgrade. I would rather get that than a 100 credit which I read wasn't going to happen since no price increase no money credit just the memory upgrade. I remember when we used to get free buds or a $150 to $200 credit but I don't always remember free storage upgrades also. I do on my past couple phones. I know when I had the 21 I was waiting for the 23 had no interest in the 22 and later on down the line it was a 1000 for your 21 plus free memory upgrade. So we decided to do it and that way when the 23 came out we would get more trade in. Of course we did the 24 after that and the 25 I had no interest in at all but I am excited for the 26. I got a bonus at work and get one more in May so I will get the 512 anyway I guess. I remember when Rakuten used to have 10 or 12% when the new phones came out. Lately it's only been 3% like when I got my friend 2 x 25U on Black Friday. I guess we will just wait and see.
