Who switched from iPhone to Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge

Those who never owned or had very little experience with an iPhone will never fully understand why its hard for people to give it up.
I think you need to give people some credit. I understood why people would choose android over iPhone before I ever got an android phone - understanding the reverse is really not that much of a stretch. It's not some alien technology.

Thank you. All because Apple has found a way to lock their owners into their ecosystem, its not impossible to work out of it. As always with phones, it depends on whats important to you. if iMessage is that important and a huge dependency, then i understand why iPhone is key...or if iCloud is your only use of cloud services. As if iPhone is flawless lol.

I wonder why yours does not do that; my S6 does. I just scanned a few emails. Each and every date and time is hyperlinked and clicking on it brings up the calendar app with the date and time pre-set. The last few Galaxy phones I've had did the same thing. This is with the stock email app.

Well, like I said, it does do SOME of them ... but I see dates/times/numbers often enough that it doesn't pick up and at least offer to start a calendar event or phone number to dial. Maybe it's better now.

I had installed the exchange service APK so I could use the Gmail app for my work email, but just changed back to stock email so I can test it out again. I'll see if it's any better than I remember.

On another note ... One thing I wish they would change is that when you click on a number in a web browser, or hit the "call" button on a browser page for a business or whatever ... it ports that number to the phone dialer, but you still have to hit the button to make it dial out. I want it to just dial when I hit the "call" button in the browser. I know it's just one extra step, but I forget a lot and sometimes sit there wondering when the phone is going to make a good connection to a cell tower and get the call going, then I look down and the phone dialer is just sitting there waiting for me to tell it to actually dial the number LOL.

Jump on that Verizon S6/Edge. On a discount $50 off each model! Same prices as the iPhone 6/plus now.

I think that's a safe guard. In case you hit the call button in the website accidentally, the iPhone goes to the dialer app. If you didn't mean to hit the call button you can go back to the website. As opposed to accidentally hitting the call button in the website and dialing unnecessarily.

I'm fighting between the two options right now. I'm currently on a 6 Plus but was on an S6 and Nexus 6 pretty recently. I've been an Android guy for about 4 years, dabbling in iOS here and there. One thing that iOS has on Android is the OCD issue. Everything looks the same and works together. It's not nearly as disjointed. And you get updates at the same time as everyone else. That being said, there are still a few things that I'm really missing about Android and I can't quite shake it. So I'm still looking into going back to the S6. But it sure is nice never worrying about my battery life...

I am probably putting my edge on eBay this weekend. Not having iMessage is quickly becoming a big issue. I was using my iPhone 6 over the weekend and haven't really put it down. S6 is nice but the whole Samsung thing is a little much. I will jump on the next nexus.

I'm just curious if you're having issues with actually sending/receiving because of iMessage not deregistering, or more because you can no longer communicate with iPods/iPads.

I recently switched from apple to android and had a texting problem too.I did some research and found is a common problem and it is caused by apple not taking the number off of there platform and so other phones that you have texted before recognize your phone as an iPhone. It can be solved by turning imessage off before switching to a new phone or by contacting Apple customer support.Maybe this isn't your problem, but it was mine.

Yeah, I don't remember how I came across this, but I'm thinking it was through Samsung Smart Switch. They direct you to a link that makes deregistering iMessage really easy, in case you didn't do it through the iPhone first. I know you've already resolved it for yourself, but in case anybody else is having a problem this link makes it super easy.

https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage

Enter your phone number, enter confirmation code that they send you on that page.

Anyway, for me personally I can live without iMessage. I'm not sure I understand why anybody would miss it unless they need it to contact people with iPods/iPads (which I do understand may be a big deal).

Hey cool, that's good to know! A friend of mine had an issue with imessage and ended up just calling Apple to deregister. This seems to be even easier.

My fiancé recently did. She broke her 5s & purchased a Galaxy Edge to compliment her iPhone 6. She enjoys it for the most part minus the battery life & the lag.

The main reason I needed to get away from the iPhone is iTunes, for multiple reasons.

-Being locked into iTunes. I'd rather be able to treat the phone like a storage device like you can with pretty much any other phone. Life has been so much easier for music management for me on Android since switching, and it has become even easier with the ability to do it directly through my phone via SMB to connect to my NAS through a file manager app.

-Interface feels dated. There are a lot of little things that might not bother most people that bug me. The box at the top of iTunes where it displays the progress for adding music is also used to display a song that is currently playing, and there is no way to get that song to completely disappear without restarting iTunes. You have to hit an arrow to show transfer progress every time you add songs. When I had the iPhone 4 I could not get the column browser to work with my phone's music library for over a year - it was simply grayed out (eventually this was resolved with an iTunes update). I couldn't filter music by artist or album, and that was a little annoying.

-iTunes at times did not allow me to add music properly. Sometimes when adding songs they would not transfer over, but instead be displayed in my iPhone's music library grayed out. I tried restarting iTunes, deleting the grayed out entries and re-adding songs, among other things, but none of these resolved the problem. This would persist for days at a time, during which time I could not add music to my phone. A few times when adding songs iTunes would delete my entire music library from my phone, re-add every song, and then add the song(s) that I wanted to add. This was especially annoying when I'd have many gigs of music on the phone and was transferring through USB 2.0 (can't blame Apple for that part, haha).

Basically iTunes was enough to make me run away from the iPhone as having music on my phone is a huge deal for me. To be fair though I had a much better music listening experience in my car with my iPhone. My car stereo recognizes Apple devices via USB, allowing me to control everything from the iPhone as well as through the playback controls of the car stereo. I typically shuffle my entire library, or a playlist, and being able to reach out and press the physical buttons on my stereo for pause/play and next song were a convenience. My stereo does not work with Android in any way via USB, and now I'm using auxiliary in to play music and am unable to use stereo controls for playback. I've found a decent alternative in using a Bluetooth media remote for physical buttons, but having to grab or hold the remote can be inconvenient/unsafe at times when driving. Another problem I'm having with playing music via auxiliary is a noticeable downgrade in sound quality, and it is killing me (I'm not sure if the iPhone fed songs to the digital audio converter of the stereo and allowed the stereo to do digital to analog conversion, or how all that worked, but I just know the music does not sound as good now). My music collection sounded amazing before and now it is merely passable, and this saddens me.

Regardless, after coming to the S6 and having all of the additional freedom of customization I'd probably have a difficult time going back to the iPhone. I like having the choice of the mail app I'd like to use. I'm addicted to messing around with different widgets. Nova Launcher is absolutely brilliant to me, and I love having multiple dock pages, being able to offset icons on the grid, having desktop gestures, among other things.

I do kind of miss FaceTime, but there are plenty of apps for video calling (I still have an iPad for that if I really specifically need FaceTime). I miss having respectable battery life without having to do hours of research and disable apps, kill processes, change push notification settings within apps, clear the cache and uninstall updates for apps, change many system settings, etc. For these reasons I'd have a hard time recommending the S6 to a family member as I think most of them would not want to deal with these things. I do however have much better battery life now and will no longer consider this an issue for me personally.

All in all I'm happy I switched to Android and prefer it over iOS. However, I would at least consider an iPhone again in the future if iTunes was not required for music management (without needing to jailbreak the iPhone or do any other unsanctioned workaround).

I also agree with Charles about itunes. I HATED having to do everything through iTunes. I like being able to download songs on my s6 without them having to be bought from itunes. I miss imessage allowing me to text from my macbook, but I still like the s6 more for sure. Customizing the phone is just so much fun :D cept the battery life x__x

Hello,

I switched from the iPhone 5 to the S6 and I agree with some of your points and others are incorrect:

1. When properly set up, the S6 battery life is longer than the iPhone 6 - nearly all professional tests have verified this. I find that if I manually turn down my screen brightness, it makes a big difference.

2. The Apple IOS is more fluid than Android, I agree. There is a unification of the various apps that most of the time is seamless. However, the trade off is that you lose all freedom to personalize your phone and set it up exactly how you want it. For the most part I really liked Apple's software organization on the iPhone, but Android's OS is quickly catching up.

3. Apple apps fail, can be buggy and have advertising banners on them too. I disagree with you on this point. More complex Apple apps have problems just like Android apps do. I do agree that some (not all) Android apps have obnoxious banners.

4. I do think the overall app quality on Apple's IOS system is superior to Android, but not that much.

5. I have owned three iPhones and the S6 is far faster than any of them and its display if vastly superior. To be fair I have not owned the iPhone 6 but professional reviewers, including the prestigious "Display Mate" website have uniformly declared the S6 display as the best on any smart phone.

6. The camera on the S6 is superior to the iPhone 6 according to most professional reviews. In low light, only the iPhone 6 Plus comes close to the S6.

7. The S6 is far faster at most functions than the iPhone 6. It even equals the iPhone 6 in gaming, which is a remarkable feat considering it has significantly more resolution in it's screeen.

Both phones are good phones and I understand your frustration with the Android world. I was a huge Apple fan until Tim Cool started forcing his radical homosexual agenda off on Americans who want nothing to do with it. I think you were more comfortable with the Apple IOS system then Android and that is understandable, I frankly prefer it too. However I do think the S6 is superior to current iPhones in several key areas that are important to me.

Very good points here but I'd like to comment on a few things.
1. Like you said "when properly set up" the S6 battery can last longer but thats one of the problems ppl have when comparing the iPhone with S6. The S6 needs alot of battery management, having to shut off certain features just go get the battery to last all day. The iPhone 6 you dont have to do this.

3. Apple apps do fail but very rarely. In the 7 months i've had my iPhone 6 I can count on one hand how many times an app or game has crashed. In the 2 months with the S6 I've got the "unfortunately so and so app has stopped" message at least a couple times a week.

7. This i disagree with. Maybe a few functions the S6 is faster (like the double press for camera) but thats about it. I'm not a big gamer on phones but the few games I do play like Temple Run and Batman load faster and play smoother than the S6. I have both phones and I've done plenty of side by side comparisons to confirm this.

I'm not bashing the S6 at all. There are things about it I love and I dont regret buying it one bit but I think my issue has to do more with Android as an OS than the S6 itself. iOS (to me) is just a more polished more streamlined hassle free experience.

I switched from an iphone 5 to s6 edge. The reason for my switch was need for more space so I was between an iphone 6 with more space or another. My roommate and bf both had Samsung and for the gb I wanted it was the cheaper option. After using iPhone though for he last billion years and having a mac I'm finding it difficult to get used to. Battery life seems to go fast, I keep getting told touch wiz has stopped working, lag. I never even experienced the iphone 6 but at this point feel I wouldn't have minded spending the mkney . I'm not big into customization I mainly used my phone for music, and I'm just used to the controls on iPhone. My main pet peeve as of late is that I can't control my spotify on lok screen without turning on notifications. It's just a lot of seemingly small things.

Reading this forum I was hoping to see a lot of "so glad I switched from iphone" lol but the mixed reviews are causing me to remain with my regrets

i switched from iphone to s6 and im definitely not glad for it. so many problems with android and samsung in general. my last android phone was an s3 and it was terrible. i thought android and samsung would have come further along by now since then, but it really hasn't.

I didn't have an iPhone but my wife has had a few and she has had more problems than me with my androids. From battery deterioration, faulty WiFi antenna, and just random issues. I also have an ipad that I have had randomly close safari more times than I can count. So I think these experiences depend upon who you ask. That said, iOS and android are for different consumers. iOS is for the average person that wants simplicity. Android is for nerds like me that love technology and everything it can do.

You've made it pretty clear on this forum you hate your S6 compared to your beloved iPhone...painfully obvious. Why do you still have it? It's been over a month at least and you're still complaining here daily...if I hated something that much I would have sold it by now considering it would bring a nice return.

My buddy has an iPhone 6 and I got an S6, while the idle time on iPhone is slightly better over a few hours of testing we discovered the devices are nearly identical in terms of app usage and battery life. I think the complaint of all these iPhone fans here that S6 battery is bad stems a lot from the popularity of issues more than personal experience. S6 battery ain't the best but neither is the iPhone 6 (we ain't talking plus).

For all the people who claim they own an S6 and it sucks compared to iPhone, sell the thing and leave. You do nothing but complain constantly...it's fine to voice your opinion but when your only opinion is consistently negative you lose credibility.

I switched from iphone 6 to galaxy s6. i have been a iphone user since iphone 3g and owned every single release a part from the iphone 5. 7 years with apple and Mac.
I have been using the GS6 for 3 weeks and i love it. Battery idle could be better, that's my only complaint. May software update will fix that.
I love the fingerprint scanner.
I like the notifications better than ios.
I like the screen better than my iphone 6.
Wireless charging is the future, quick charging,
I love the camera with all the settings it has compare to Iphone ( i don't like some pics in door, white look a bit yellow).
Android is fun, IOS became a bit boring for me and similar since many years.
I like the sharing facilities better than iphone.
I like the fact that you can download apk apps. Apps that you can't have on IOS.
I am not gig on customisation but good to have the choice.
I love google now integration.

Things i will miss on iphone is how it works with my Mac. Imessage (anyway i use whatsapp a lot), Facetime call (my friends smartphones are becoming more varied now not all of them have an iphone), can receive and make call and text from my mac using my iphone (i don't use it a lot), some apps design on ios, i used itunes a lot don't mind loading my playlist to google music. Icloud Back up.
Anyway i think, with time, i won't mind having my phone being separate from my computer.

In summary, i feel Android is more exciting and fun that IOS, or may be is the fact i am new. I will see that with time.
Pretty much everything on the GS6 is more advanced than my Iphone 6. and feel i got what i paid for.

Hi I have been backwards and forwards between samsung and apple I had an iPhone 4s and then switched to there note, s4 then s5. Then gave up samsung because of the lag, but loved the features. Now I am using an iPhone 6 and i have tried the s6 edge for a week but prefer the s6, I did not find any lag and i really like the speed and performance and all the features of samsung especially the customisability and how it plays all video formats. I am Thinking of selling my iPhone 6 and getting the s6 do you think I should do get the s6.

Switched from iPhone 6 and this is going back tomorrow.

2 weeks on vacation and it's easy to compare battery with my wife's iPhone 6. It's not even close.

The screen is awesome and performance is way better than the s5 but the deal breaker for me is group messaging. It's still awful on android. I don't get messages, they arrive out of order, and sending mms is painful or I don't get them at all. Google/Samsung needs something to compete with imessages and it's not hangouts.
Not sure if this is a Samsung thing or your carrier, but this doesn't happen on Xperia
