Who tried S3 and prefers EVO LTE?

I really hope no one thinks i'm trolling or anything. This is my first upgrade in years. I don't really switch phones often and I want to make sure i'm happy with my purchase. There are issues with both phones that makes it difficult to pick a clear cut favorite. The S3 is suppose to have the better camera but now I'm following a thread that suggests that the S3 was shipped with two different sensors.. one from Sony and another from Samsung. The Samsung sensor is suppose to be the crappy one.. and it appears I may have the Samsung sensor judging by my firmware version.

My gripes with EVO deal with multitasking and only having 1gb of ram. I also hate how Sense compresses MMS that are sent/received. I have also been reading about the constant reloading of Sense. How are custom roms progressing for the EVO? I may go back but i'm not sure.

Im sorry but what does constant reloading of sense mean?.... phone rebooting? not quite sure.

thanks

BTW, i prefer EVO LTE hands down. better screen, beats. dont care about the fact that it has 1 more GB ram and has removeable battery. Best buy protection plan covers the battery with a free replacement and the fact that its not removable, theyll replace it with a brand new phone. :)

Interesting. Where did you read this? I only ask because I had a One X for a while and I was shocked when I got the SIII and discovered how good the camera was. It takes pictures that have a real sense of depth to them. Colors are also far less saturated than I was expecting. I do tv calibration on the side so I know a little something about white balance, color saturation, black level, etc. My girlfriend had a high end DSLR, and while the GSIII can't begin to sniff the pictures that thing takes, the pictures are so good in my view that I would say it it is the best thing about this phone. Get back to me if you can as I am very interested in any information.

The thread regarding the two cam sensors on the S3 can be found here:
Camera takes worse night/low-light pics than S2! - xda-developers

Can you please check the firmware version of your cam?

My wife just picked up her new GS3 yesterday and while I was a little envious at first I do like the display better on my Evo LTE. Also, she was coming from the Evo OG and I used to be able to call her at work....Now with her new GS3, straight to voicemail. She is less than pleased after day 2 ;)

Thanks for that. I have version 1.5. I should have added that I don't really care about very low light pics as they are usually so bad that I just leave my flash off and never turn it on for anything. I will try some low light shots tonight.

Sorry my firmware is ZDFE02. I will test low light tonight.

Also, S3 doesn't have 16:9 pics under 8mp setting.

Well, that's because then it would only be a 6.0MP picture. HTC is very ignorant and deceptive for labeling the phone's camera as 8MP but then having the default be a 6MP widescreen picture.

16x9 in camera phones is a stupid setting because all it does is crop pixels at the top and bottom - it doesn't actually give you more horizontal pictures. And by default, the HTC EVO LTE (and probably One X) only give you a 6MP picture. You're better off simply turning off widescreen unless you absolutely don't have time to do your own cropping and want it widescreen for some reason.

Oh I see. I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for clearing it up!

The s3 is growing on me, better battery life

In theory, the two phones should have about the same battery life. I have seen reports of the Evo being better and the S3 being better. Both are very good

Trust me.. do not feel bad. It is most likely that the S3 had the display cranked up to 100%. Believe me when I say that the brightness of the S3 is terrible and is no match for the EVO LTE. It is terrible on sunny days. It is way way too dim.

It is much more than brightness. The Evo LTE/One X screens are also much sharper and have better color representation too. Very different technologies. There is no factor in which the S3's screen is better.

About 3,231 threads on this - each with about 3 posts since nobody bothered to search before starting a new thread on the issue. Search for "Sense reloading," "sense loading," "sense reloads," "sense resetting," "sense lagging," "sense rebooting," "Sense reboots" "sense not working," "sense/homescreen slow," "constant Sense reloads," "Sense Crashing," "Sense sucks," "why I hate Sense," "Sense voted the wrong way on Obamacare" and you should find it.

Doesn't this belong in the politics thread...:D

Yes, please test and refer back to this thread. Thanks!

Well I took some shots and in low light and you definitely need to use flash even in moderately low lighting. The HOX I had definitely took in more light. Definitely some noise in low light shots on the GSIII but with the flash on, much to my surprise, it's not half bad. In my opinion daytime photos is where the GSIII really shines.

S3 screen sux...I have both ...S3 (100%)= EVO 65-70% brightness...it pisses me off outdoors

I dunno, samoled takes contrast and black levels, but in my opinion that means absolutely nothing when everything is over saturated. Slcd2 wins by far overall.

Unfunded and forced health care affects us all. :p

Back to phones....

I was at the Sprint store yesterday and could easily see the pixelation on the S3. As much as I prefer the Wolfson DAC and 2GB, I can't look at that screen. The EVO looked much better. A CM9 ROM will fix software issues.

Also the EVO looks like it has stronger radios... Not surprised.

Also, not sure 2GB is even necessary, even the new Nexus 7 tablet only has 1GB.
