Who's excited about the V30?

Waterproofing it's not fluff.

So the G6 and V30 are not the right phones for you. Pick another that is. For myself and a lot of others they're working great.

Waterproof
Wide angle lense
Wireless charging
Super smooth performance
More screen realastate
Placement of the back button

My point was that none of those required getting rid of the removeable battery feature or the IR blaster. I think you have fallen for the "party line" of Apple, Samsung and the LG G6 team when they told you they could not do water-resistant AND offer both. We know this is not true because the S5 had these types of features a few years back. This whole thing reminds me of the manufacturers claiming they could no longer offer SD cards because it would slow down the memory access too much. People called them on that lie and now we magically have phone with SD cards again that are somehow not crippled with slow memory access...imagine that!

As for picking another phone if I don't like what they are doing to the G and V line, I would LOVE to do that. Problem is, I don't think there's anyone left.
For the LG team, I don't see how they can hope to survive. If people want an iPhone, they will buy Apple. If people want an Android wannabe iPhone then Samsung has that market cornered. LG was awesome at being a feature-packed alternative and thanks to the "reviewers" making it sound like their phones were hideously ugly, they got hammered in the market.

Though not impossible, to make it water resistant and removable battery adds to the cost and its chance of failure is greater. The IR blaster not a feature that the masses want or even know about. Unfortunately we are the minority and LG is actually smart in catering to the masses.

Fallen for the party line? Well I've never personally had a Samsung or Apple phone. I have had an LG that had an ir blaster that I used maybe 5 times.

Sure we would love for every phone to have every feature available but come on that's just not the case. Would I like water resistance and a removable back? Of course. Am I going to beat my fist on the table and swear off LG phones because this ain't an option? Absolutely not

I'll find the phone that is most relevant to my needs and wants and go with it. Be as pessimistic and disappointed as you choose to be with your choices but don't assume you know what I want or need in a phone.

It's not just photo editing, but it just doesn't look natural all around. Heck, I'd be happy if they would show true white, not yellow or green tinted whites.

The SUPER AMOLED screens has gotten the whites much whiter than before. But if you compare an HTC or LG's LCD screen next to it, you can see the huge difference, it's just not true white. But blacks are better. A trade off. After using both, I still prefer LCD because I can leave the screen on for a long time and won't be afraid of using brightness at 100%.

This is where manufactures are no longer offering variety and slimming down on features. We are losing features each year and phones are becoming simplified for the average American Joe. Manufactures figured the average Joe doesn't use IR blaster, removable battery, headphone jack, etc. so they get cut. However, the pro heavy users suffer the loss and forced to search elsewhere.

It's very possible, though has nothing to do with cost (see the Galaxy S5). Water-resistance isn't always great because the low quality loud speaker due to sealed speaker and sealed battery. I think manufactures are seeing that customers are no longer upgrading their phones as often; a sealed back phone will force an upgrade every 2 years. The water resistance just adds an extra cool feature to attract customers. I've barely used the water resistance feature of my Galaxy S6 & S7 Active; I did get to take a shower with it but what am I going to do, take a baked selfie? BTW the speaker quality was horrible, even on the regular S7 & S8, couldn't stand it.

Sorry but there is no such thing as waterproof

I concur. Cannot expose it to sea water, dirty lake water, and chlorine water. Doing so will damage and deteriorate the phone. So I don't see the point. I used to take a shower with my water resistant phone but didn't really see the point. A waterproof bag is much more recommended, will protect it from salt water and sand.

I'm well aware of the S5 and its definitely more expensive to make a removable back water resistant phone than a sealed one. That said I wish that was an option.

Welp, it doesn't matter anymore anyways... iPhones are crossing over into Amoled territory .

Expect a shortage in AMOLED screens in Android phones (iPhone 8 and ALL future iPhones after, not iPhone 7s). Samsung will be their main supplier. However, only Samsung will have their signature SUPPER AMOLED (much brighter and vibrant).

"Who's excited about the V30?"

Not me. I'd normally be excited for LG flagships, but 2017 has proven to be a disappointment with some of their hardware choices.

Feel the same way. This is their very least exciting phone yet. V20 still kicks butt and has more features than the V30.

Upgrade times are still shortening, from an average above two years down to an average of just over a year. A huge number of devices are purchased on monthly payments, which makes upgrading with a trade in deal very easy.

I don't do any of these and I don't shower with my phone. I work construction. I've lost 2 phones in rain puddles and one from getting rained on.

I don't look at water resistance as an extra function, I see it more as a safety net to help against accident's. Hell I wouldn't let my daughter run her G6 under the faucet just to test it out.

Again I would like a replaceable battery it would help in my current situation. I also don't blame anyone who prefers a replaceable battery. Variety is what it's all about. Just don't assume you know what's better for me or why I make the decisions I do

Sorry but this is not true at all.

All you have to do is check the prices of the oem replacement backs of the s5 and compare prices for the note 5...you will see how much cheaper it will be.

Glass backs add significantly to the price of the phone, as well as additional cost to have it replaced professionally, not to mention the down time.

There are a number of reasons given why everyone is adopting them and in the end it is to give the manufacturer a higher return rate for producing them.

The masses have never gotten over how small and sleek the iPhone was and demand that all cell phones try to achieve this.

Super thin bezeless designs with glass featured prominently are still in vouge because this design is being pushed by every reviewer from tech sites, bloggers, and even news outlets. It has nothing to do with durability, or usability but everything to do with vanity and how it looks and how you feel using it. False perceptions especially when it fails, but they have you hooked waiting for your next fix that will take care of any issues you may have... Just wait with anticipation for the new models.... and with the forced obsolescence.. you have to upgrade because they never put the best hardware or software in..

It just keeps going round and round....

The OEM replacement back cost has nothing to do with my point and you using the note as a comparison doesnt quite fit.
It would cost more to design and produce identical water resistant phones if one had a removable back verses sealed.

I'm not a fan of sealed phones but it is what it is.

Not really sure how you think it would cost more, since the cost for a glass back is 8x10 times higher than a plastic back. Injection molded plastic is far cheaper than any glass product and this is counting the cost of the o-ring needed.

I never specified glass. I'm saying it costs more to design and make a phone water resistant than it does its equal in a sealed version. Plastic to plastic, metal to metal, or glass to glass it just costs more to produce and that is not including risk factors.

The reason LG brought glass into the picture is to hopefully sell more units and more units sold per design basis equals lower cost of overall design.

Again... I am not a fan of the changes LG plans to introduce, however it would be unrealistic of those of us who prefer the basic design of the V20 to every other flagship to think we have a real say in the matter. We are the minority which is a bitter pill to swallow, however its just the way things are at the moment. Maybe someday things will revert but for now our choice is to stick with what we own or go with the flow.
