Who's excited about the V30?

I never specified glass. I'm saying it costs more to design and make a phone water resistant than it does its equal in a sealed version. Plastic to plastic, metal to metal, or glass to glass it just costs more to produce and that is not including risk factors.

The reason LG brought glass into the picture is to hopefully sell more units and more units sold per design basis equals lower cost of overall design.

Again... I am not a fan of the changes LG plans to introduce, however it would be unrealistic of those of us who prefer the basic design of the V20 to every other flagship to think we have a real say in the matter. We are the minority which is a bitter pill to swallow, however its just the way things are at the moment. Maybe someday things will revert but for now our choice is to stick with what we own or go with the flow.

You don't have to specify glass since the v30 is going to it...

As to the rest.. Making a phone water resistant (which is what we are discussing since this should be on it) will take 2 different approaches. 1 have flaps covering the ports. 2 Have all ports sealed from inside. There is a 3 option but that is done by the consumer sending it in to be treated.

Since we already know that the ports are sealed on the inside on glass or metal backed phones, just going to a removable plastic back is cheaper than a glass or metal back.. The issue is how the oems are placing the components inside while shrinking the thickness.

The real trade offs is a choice between Uber thin phones and slightly thicker phones and how good they sound. Battery placement, having to put in heatpipes, doing everything just to make a thin bezeless phone cost more and a removable back reduces the cost for a slightly thicker phone.

Sure Sure the removable back may seem to cost more but it really doesn't cost more for a normal sized v20 vs a Uber thin bezeless design.

Couple that with their planned obsolescence and this cost us more.

I know those of us who want removable backs and batteries are the minority, but I see no reason to go along with their P.Poor excuses for doing away with them.

Just think of all the money users could save if the manufacturers beefed up the designs. Sure the phone would cost more, but not $120 more (median price of Verizon's total equipment protection for a year, since so many now upgrade yearly). I'd love to see a phone with pretty good specs marketed as one you don't need to buy a case or insurance for because it's built for the real world.

I am my own person and not going along with anyone's excuses and my comments were not specific to the V30. I'm stating the not so obvious. Its costs more to design and make a phone with a removable back water resistant. You are only including what parts may or may not cost.

Anyway its a done deal if we are to believe the leaks and there is nothing we collectively can do except refuse to buy the phone. I am not buying it unless I decide it has the features I want. Lack of a removable battery won't stop me from buying a phone if it has other features I want. Neither will lack of an IR blaster or a notification light or any single feature with few exceptions.

Me too but its not happening.... Not this time anyway

They are also concerned with selling more phones and decided to play follow the leader.

No offense but explain to me why it cost more?

There is little to no R&D since the layout is standard, and the material cost is less, There may be a slight increase in the battery cost since they have to give them a finish coat, but other than that why would it cost more?

I understand it's a done deal and it's the main reason why I still have a brand new v20 in the box on my desk, but these excuses that have been given for sealing up the phone don't pass muster with me.. and never have. BTW.. I'm using the htc-u11 right now. It's a great phone but I would be more impressed if it had a removable back and battery....That makes me a minority I know, but that's just how I feel

I said design and didn't mention R&D and quite frankly I'm done going back & forth beating this horse. There is nothing I can say to convince you and it is not my goal to do so.
The bottom line is LG stands to sell more units if the V30 has mass appeal. That's the route it appears they have chosen, so that's what we are left to deal with. When the actual release comes we shall see what it has to offer.

I was at first but I'm extremely disappointed that it's basically going to be a bigger g6.

The v line was made to be easily identifiable from the g line.

Not anymore...

100% this.

After LG took care of me on my two V10s and their bootloop problems, I figured I owe them some business.

But no second screen? Buttons on the side??? (I love the V10 buttons on the back--so I can grab the phone by the side without changing anything!) Sealed in battery? Yeah--it's just a bigger G6.

Sorry, LG.

Well.....I say wait and see till release date.

Some like the volume buttons in the back, some prefer sides. I prefer the sides because I always have it mounted in my car, it really helps.

You have to think in business sense. If a user kept his phone for 5-6 years, imagine how much money they would lose out on. Phones today are so good, they can last for a very long time. Batteries however, do not. The smart consumer will hang on to his phone for years, simply because his or her phone works perfectly fine, and takes good pictures. Cracked glass? Send it in for repair, collect fees. Battery issue? Same thing. Samsung had been lying about sealing the phone for ergonomics, ironically it actually is very user unfriendly to have curved glass.

Unfortunately you sometimes mistake your opinion for the facts. Because you don't like the ergonomics or the glass doesn't make it bad. I realize you have good intentions but what's good for you isn't necessarily good for everyone. Samsung sells a lot of phones for a lot of different reasons. I won't buy one because it doesn't suit me but they make great products.

What's to get excited about. No secondary display & no removable battery! Sounds like dismal sales to me! Yikes!

There is a different type of secondary display. Dismal sales are what LG has now. Doubtful that a secondary display and removable battery influence sales to a high degree.

I admit. It looks absolutely stunning. However, for day to day use, it's not practical. It just takes one accidental stumble and you're done. Not alone, the fingerprints and grease you constantly have to clean. Wireless charging sucks, I've tried it. You have to set it EXACTLY in the right position or it won't charge. Also, there is a huge amount of heat generated do expect your battery to die within 8 months. True story, former Samsung owner.

Your problem is mostly Samsung's implementation and management of the charging process.

True story - I've had 3 wireless charging phones:Nokia 928, Icon, Moto DT2. All with the same chargers: Tylt Vu stand. No positioning issues, no excess heat issues. It's my preferred charging method.

I have the same stand...occasionally my Droid Maxx would get hot.
