Who's ordering?

I normally wait at least 4 months after a new Pixel is released before purchasing, to allow adequate time for users to provide feedback and for Google to resolve the inevitable early glitches. So I had planned to continue using my Pixel 6 Pro -- which still functions perfectly -- until after the new year before moving to the new model.

But today, Verizon made me an offer I couldn't refuse -- an $800 discount/subsidy plus a free included upgrade to 512GB on a preorder for the Pixel 9 Pro XL. They said it should ship in two days, but I'm in no hurry, since I'll need to find a nice leather wallet case for it before I activate the device. Looking forward to what I trust will be another splendid experience with my fourth Pixel.

I am on Verizon as well. What i hate about that offer you mentioned is...That give it to you over 36 months. If you pay the phone off early you lose money...if you upgrade early you lose part of the money.

Also, don't you have to be on a specific plan, or switch to it?

It's not an issue of concern for me, because my wife is always happy to inherit my current Pixel whenever I upgrade. She's currently using my Pixel 5, which still performs flawlessly, and will acquire my Pixel 6 Pro when I activate the Pixel 9 Pro XL. In this instance, I was allowed by Verizon to pay off the remaining balance on the P6P without penalty, which normally would have taken until next March, and that made me eligible early for this unusually generous Verizon promotional offer on the P9PXL.

If I decide to upgrade again before the 36-month period expires, I'll simply transfer the P9PXL to my wife (so the payments will continue on our monthly bill), order a new device as an upgrade to her number, then after activating the new phone on her number, have Verizon swap our lines. No worries.

This particular promotion required only that the purchaser be on any Verizon 5G plan. Since we're already on a lower-cost 5G plan with an additional discount for being seniors, we qualified without needing to switch or upgrade to a more expensive plan. Quite the deal for us, getting what is, in effect, a $920 discount off a new Pixel 9 Pro XL 528 GB model with no trade-in and no change in our plan. Just pay the sales tax and a $35 upgrade fee up front, then the $400 balance is spread out as a credit over the next 36 months. Like I said, an offer I couldn't refuse.

Google messed up? I didn't watch the video, but I visit a lot of tech sites daily and all I have seen is a great many reviews that would seem to indicate otherwise.

I made the mistake of watching it and it had nothing to do with the actual phone...it was about Google supposedly only giving free phones to people who promised to write a positive review. I think the guy was butthurt that he didn't get a free phone.

Can't wait for impressions and photos.

I think Google knocked it out of the park this year with the colors. My two favs being Hazel and Porcelain (really came close to getting this one instead). Rose is lovely, too. As is the Wintergreen and Peony on the regular 9.

Great choices this year. And if Google offers a new color mid-year, that would be amazing. Perhaps a Bae or Bolt blue option.

Yeah, I stopped watching after advancing halfway through the video. I already knew about the drama. I stopped watching when I realized that's all he was talking about.

Now, bolt blue is something I would love to see on a Pixel and, even though I am still resisting, it would probably seal the deal. ;)

Packaging is really nice, Cleverly thought out and simple, clean.

As for the device, it's a thing of beauty. Altogether simple, elegant, well-designed, comfortable to hold, and 100% feels premium. But also without going over the top. The Hazel color is rather subdued in real life. I wonder if I might have liked the Porcelain better...!

Great first impressions overall. It's still copying my old device over.

Well, I surprised no one and placed an order ... I kept telling myself not to, but after the early impression videos / very positive early reviews, curiosity got the best of me and I made the fatal mistake of going to Best Buy today LOL The build feels phenomenal and by far the best of any Pixel I've used. That coupled with an improved modem, cooling chamber (or whatever it's called), brighter screen, better FPS, and Google's great trade in discounts, I figured why not.

However, there is a surprise ... I went non XL Really just loved the size! Hard to get a true sense with the all the security stuff on it, but it seems to be the perfect sized phone without compromises. Hopefully I don't regret it.
