Unable to connect USB to Surface computer running Win10 to manage files

I had this problem before Verizon MM update too - was hopeful the MM update would fix but it has not.

I can connect USB to my S6 running MM with Win7 laptop without issue, but this has never worked on my Surface running win10.

I have tried both MTP and PTP but neither work. I just hear a bunch of beeps from Surface indicating it's trying to connect, then fails, then re-tries.

I tried installing the Samsung Smart switch app (to get latest drivers) because I saw a few posts about that, but still no luck. Also saw posts about my needing to use the original USB cable that comes with S6 which I'm doing.

Tonight I'm going to try other USB cables just for kicks.

Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Welcome back! Does your original cable work on other PCs right now? If not, let us know how other cables work, because that would definitely be the first thing to try.

Right now I've only tested original S6 cable with Surface which doesn't work, and alternate USB cable with win7 laptop which works.

Tonight I'm going to swap the cables with both laptops and post results of that test here.

thanks.

You can also use apps like airdroid that work through the wireless so no need for cables.

Well I'll be damned, it's the USB cable. Using the white cable that comes with S6 does NOT work, but using some random USB cable that I have works like a charm. Thanks for help.
