Headphones quiet when plugged into phone but loud on computer

So I went out today and bought a new phone, the vodafone smart 4 turbo, (It wont let me post a link up, so just google the specs if your curious) and Phillips DJ style headphones to go with it. When i plugged the headphones in and tried to listen to music the sound was only moderately loud. Loud enough to sort of hear, but not loud enough to enjoy the music. When i got home i plugged them into my apple mac to see if it was a fault with the headphones and they were awesome quality and loud enough to give me ear damage if i turned it up all the way. I have tried turning the EQ off and downloading apps like speaker boost and any sound amplifyer out there and they do absolutely nothing. I even plugged the headphones that came with the phone to see if they were any louder and they were just as quiet.
Any suggestions?

Welcome to Android Central! First, make sure the plug is in all the way. Sometimes the headphone jack can be pretty tight, so people think the plug is in, but it actually isn't in completely. This can cause the sound to be low and hollow. Make sure you feel or hear the plug click into place. Also, make sure there isn't any debris in the jack, like lint.

It might also be that the headphones require a decent amount of power to drive them (this would only be the case if they're big DJ-type headphones, which is what they sound like), and the phone can't quite supply enough.
