Why are people buying a SCREEN PROTECTOR??!

I was under the assumption that we were in the United States and that we could spend our money on whatever we wanted. If someone wants a screen protector on their phone who are you to tell them they can't or that they shouldn't? Just the same you don't have to have one on your phone if you so choose. My personal preference is to have a screen protector on my phones. Anyone that I may have at the time. I earn my money and should not be told how to spend it. Just like I wouldn't tell you how to spend yours.

i like the idea of having a screen protector, if the glass does shatter, it'll keep my fingers from being cut to tiny bits while i wait for my replacement to come in.

My screen protector is an anti-glare one. So it works nicely. Also owning an iTouch I know what happens if you get a deep scratch.

I use a screen protector (Bodyguardz) because it protects the surface AND it helps when sliding my fingers across the screen (Swype, etc.).

Is this guy high?

whoops got side tracked, dude if you have a multi-hundred dollar portable device, WHY WOULDNT YOU PROTECT IT!!!

God people these days...

I'm still waiting on the OP to post a link from Corning, HTC, or Sprint confirming that the EVO has gorilla glass.

They did that for the Galaxy phones so you would think that if the EVO had it they would've said something by now.

I asked Corning and they just said they partner with several major phone MFG's and could not comment on any specific phone. Asking HTC they couldn't say yes or not.

That being said Gorilla glass is just a brand name used by Corning. The glass on the EVO is pretty strong and can stand up to just about any thing.. I have been "Naked" with my screen for nearly two months and no case with no a single scratch on the screen (I do have the Zagg shield on the back and sides of the phone) the phone goes in and out of my pockets all day long (I would guess 20 - 30 times a day) and when I am in the car I keep it in the cup holder.

I think the EVO uses a similar glass to Gorilla glass it's just not that name brand..

It's possible..kinda like Apple has a version of it on the iphone 4, but I would think that they would advertise it a little more.

I've always used screen protectors on all my mobile devices. They are not a scam. No glass is scratch proof. I've seen both iPhones and Droid Incredibles with numerous large scratches. Besides, if you do a good install, you don't even notice it's there, and you can swipe away without worrying. If scratches or the possibility of scratches don't bother you, than swipe away at that naked screen. Otherwise, a good quality screen protector like SPG's or Seidio's is well worth it.

QFT, I always use em. Worth it to me and they are dirt cheap.

Actually the HTC Hero's screen is really tough. Went 8 months with NO screen protector or case and not a single scratch - go figure. Now got the EVO and immediately put on screen protector - it has a lot of surface area.

I just broke my screen (shattered the actual LCD behind the outside glass, NOT the glass cover) so after I got my replacement from Asurion I did MY BEST to scratch my old screen. I used keys hitting it to the point I thought I was going to break the glass. I also scratched as hard as I could with my pocket knife and could not get it to scratch. I was NOT convinced that this screen was anything other than regular glass until now.

It may not be the Gorilla Glass brand, but it is Definitely some form of hardened glass that is VERY VERY VERY difficult to scratch.

go to a sandbox and get some sand and rub it on there... You'll scratch it up real good.... Glass is hard but Metal Objects like keys and a pocket knife are not as hard as the glass..

I have not used a screen protector on my phone for nearly 6 weeks now and not a single scratch.. No case and I keep it in my pockets or cup holder in my car.. Now I don't set it screen down on any hard surface...

The only benefit of a screen protector would be to avoid getting a piece of sand from your pocket on the screen and you go to rub it off and put a nice scratch across the screen.. Keys or Coins are highly unlikely to scratch your screen.... Kind of like your windshield... It's glass and imagine all the things that smack up against your windshield while you drive? Go see how many scratches you find on your windshield.... Tempered Glass is TOUGH!!!!

I bought my Evo 2 weeks after launch and bought a screen protector before ever touching the screen. I went naked 3 weeks ago and I am sorry I did. Today I noticed that my screen has hair line scratches. They are hard to see unless you look at the screen while a light is reflecting off the screen. Buying a screen protector another protector ASAP.

That sucks dude.... I have been "Naked" for nearly 2 months with no scratches at all..... I even dropped it a couple of times where it rested face (Screen) down on concrete and I was worried it was going to be scratched and nothing...

I didn't go naked to avoid scratches I just love the feel (specially using Swype as my Keyboard) of the naked glass.... I tried 3 different screen protectors and the Steinheil ones were really nice and smooth like the natural glass but After getting a 3 pack I always ended up with one piece of dust or a hair between the glass and screen protector... and with the Zagg I always ended up with the same.. Some thing stuck under the protector that just had my OCD going over drive so I just finally went fully naked..

Peace of mind. I installed a screen protector on mine and you can't really tell the difference at all. The only way you can tell is there some slight peeling at one corner, but that is covered by the case.

Do I need it? probably not. However this way I don't have to worry about it at all really.

See I don't use a case and the Steinheil screen protectors were awesome but after using the scotch tape method and getting the couple of pieces of dust that got caught under the protector I had two corners peeling up ever so slightly... It just annoyed the crap out of me... I caught myself way too often trying to push those corners down and eventually I just ripped it up....

The Zagg shield's were a little tacky to the touch when sliding but not horrible...

I think it's all personal preference on any of this stuff.. Cases, Screen protectors, even your choice of blue tooth or head phones.... Every one has difference taste and styles they want to go with....

I have never had a case for any phone I have owned.. Purchased a few for my iPhone and my Nexus One but at the end of the day I just like the way these phones feel right out of the box....

If I was rough on my phones I would get a case and screen protector but for the most part I take it easy on my electronics.... :p

I've had my evo since it launched and have never used a screen protector. I do use a case on occasion but I mostly just put it in a cargo pocket on my jeans. To this day I still don't have any scratches on my screen. I'm also very picky about my electronics. I have to agree that the screen is so much more responsive without a protector. I guess it's like everyone else says, in the end it's a matter of personal choice. It's amazing how a little care and attention can go a long way in preventing screen damage. My personal belief is if phone manufacturers wanted screen protectors on their devices they would come pre installed. Just my two cents. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Not really... they'd sell the phones without screens themselves if they could get away with it... :D

We're lucky to get chargers nowadays...

Who effin cares so much to argue about screen protectors.
Flippin put em on or don't. Cripes.

In case you hadn't noticed, this argument ended back in September. Since you decided to revive this dead thread, the argument will begin again.
