Why Are You Not Upgrading To Or Buying The S20?

Personally going to hold out for the Pixel 5 this year, but if it doesn't impress, I'm ready to jump on the S21.

I gave Google a few good years, but I'm ready to move on if the Pixel 5 doesn't hit the mark.

My experience is different , it's a alll screen phone , very fast and fluid only thing doesn't have wireless charging or AOD but still really good phone .

Well, those things are true. Just pointing out the potentially fatal flaws, depending on what you value in a phone. Apparently the OP noticed those same things.

Yeah definitely everyone values something different .

Not this time, prices are getting ridiculous. $649.99 down and $26 per month, that is absurd. Thank goodness I have Note 10 +, it has been great phone.

Managed to talk myself out of getting the small S20. It's great they have bigger sensors, but a little disappointed Samsung make you go for the Ultra to get the bigger main camera. Going by the fov's listed on the specs and someone calculating the equivalents, the 'tele' lens is almost the same focal length as the wide (while the image may very well be clean at 3x, initially I believed it was 3x optical then digital up to 30x). Still undecided on Samsung's post processing of the images. 8K video having to use the 'tele' lens because of the MP count but having the crop in which I don't want.

I'm waning a smaller phone and hanging out for the rumored 5.4" iPhone, but was considering the S20 as I was wanting a change from iOS (have had 7 iPhones and 7 Androids) and it came in pink. But the phone as a whole didn't entice me enough. 120Hz is great, I've used high refresh rate monitors for a long time, can easily see the difference, but at the same time I don't really care if my phone has it or not.

Another reason: history shows that by May/June, after all the $1000/$1400 buyers have come and gone, Sammy will be blowing these out at half price via Costco.

Seriously? Is this for unlocked models? I never look at phones when I go to Costco.

Last year I switched from an iPhone 7 to my Galaxy S10e and I gotta say it was the best upgrade I got. But now that I’m more familiar with the android landscape I’m seeing a lot of good handsets that are a fraction of the cost but include more features that actually interest me, hardware and software wise. Stock android, headphone jacks, and notch-free displays among other things are higher priority than 100x zoom, 8k video, and Samsung’s relatively lackluster software

I'm waiting to see what the OnePlus 8 Pro is about. If it has sub6 and mmWave support like the S20+ and Ultra does then I'm sticking with OnePlus. If not, I may get the S20+, at this point though I can't justify spending over $1000 on a phone because if you do it's telling them it's okay to charge that much.

I need the S-Pen, so the S Series is out of the question, with regards to Samsung devices. On another Note (no pun intended), I want to try something new going forward. I want to start purchasing new devices only when my current device stops getting security updates. Unfortunately, this looks like it's going to be every three years. I wish the security update support on Android were longer though. 😔 Oh by the way, T-Mobile just released Android 10 for the Galaxy Note9 and LG G8 early this morning. Just updated both of my devices. Cheers!

I currently have a Galaxy Note 9. The only new Galaxy that really intrigues me is the S20 Ultra. But then I got to thinking that if I was really honest, the only thing that is going for it over my Note 9 is of course the camera. And specifically the camera zoom. And really, that one feature is just not enough to justify that enormous price over my current phone.

Yes it's a larger screen again but my Note 9 is plenty big. Yes it has smaller bezels but my Note 9 has bezel sizes plenty small enough for me. The 120 Hz refresh rate means nothing to me and early battery tests shows it drains significantly.

So really, I couldn't justify upgrading just to get a fancy zoom. And then there are the negatives apart from the huge price. My note 9 feels a bit heavy to hold and in the pocket and I can't imagine another 10% heavier plus another 5mm taller. And of course that big protruding camera housing. I'm also missing the S pen and the ability to charge and listen through headphones at the same time.

Don't get me wrong, I think the S20 Ultra is an amazing piece of kit and if I was getting a Galaxy phone for the first time I'd jump on board. It just doesn't justify to me having currently a Note 9 when all I am gaining is a brilliant camera zoom system whilst incurring some deficits.

My Note 9 just received a warrantied factory fresh battery and Android 10. It's running like new and has a full year ahead and more of security updates. There is no reason what-so-ever why I should or will update... till the Note 20, or the S21... or later. Content with this phone!

Ah yes, that reminds me. I doubt the S20 Ultra will be that great on battery life. Whilst I love my Note 9, battery life isn't the "beast" that the reviews claimed it would be. Particularly standby. And I would be extremely disappointed to upgrade only to find out my new S20 Ultra loses 10% or more overnight on standby drain like my Note 9 does.

I've learnt that all these reviews on any phone promising great battery inevitably disappoints.

If you ask me what would the S20 Ultra have to have to convince me to upgrade, it would have to be battery related. I think for this price, if it was a 6000 mAh battery or better yet, the new rumoured graphene battery, I would then jump on board.

My contract with my Note 9 finishes when the Note 20 is about due. I'll think about it but doubt that phone will will have much over the S20 Ultra to convince me to upgrade. Really, I'm waiting to see what the S21 range will feature and really hoping Samsung debuts the graphene battery.

How do you guys get these offers $700 off?!? I got my Note 10+ from AT&T and still paying for it. So how can you get these offers I always see every time a new Samsung device comes out?

Have you tried 120hz, or even 90hz on a phone though? You will have a very difficult time going back to 60hz.

I'm kind of glad the regular S20 has the smallest camera housing of the S20 lineup. It just gets uglier as you go up in size. Yet it has the same image processing and quality as the Ultra. I'm ok not having a fuzzy 100x zoom that I may never use. It's cool and all, but not even remotely necessary. It's regular, wide-angle, and night time photo quality that matter in a camera in 2020.

Costco doesn't sell unlocked phones only carrier phones, but generally yes it's a well known fact that Samsung phones have offers all the time. Carriers might have their own offers as well. It's up individual if they want to take the launch offers or wait and see what's offered in a few months.

Nothing special, buy the US unlocked model from Samsung.com and trade in Note 10 series which has trade in value of $700. Pay the remaining amount in full and then repeat next process next flagship. Or if you are the type who doesn't upgrade often then enjoy the phone for a few years.

Similar trade in offers are there on best buy and may be even on carriers but I don't bother with them personally.

I have 90hz (forced via developer option) refresh on my Pixel 4XL. It hasn't stopped me from using my Note9 as my "daily driver".
