Why Are You Not Upgrading To Or Buying The S20?

I had one last play with the S20 Ultra in my carrier store. Don't get me wrong, as a first attempt at a super zoom camera, it's excellent. Even at the advertised lossless 10x zoom, if you pinch zoom the photo, you can clearly see some loss of detail. Up to about 30x zoom, if you just view the picture without pinch zooming or cropping post imaging, it looks good.

However, I saw the latest news that Huawei is about to release the P40 series and its flagship has 10x optical zoom. Now that is considerably better than the S20 Ultra at 5x optical zoom.

I would never buy a Huawei phone for a number of reasons. However once I decide to replace my Note 9, I would like to see Samsung match it with 10x optical zoom. I think that to me would be optimal. 10x zoom is plenty for me and if Huawei can make it all optical, Samsung could also in time.

The S20 Ultra is as I say 5x optical zoom and with minimal loss at 10x. It is not lossless. That's great, but I would really love 10x optical that could then have 20x minimal loss zoom.

I'm going to out on a limb an guess that the 5000mAh battery in the Ultra will maintain the battery at least as good as the current S10+ or Note10+. On a personal note, battery life rarely impacts my day because in most of my situations I can easily charge and fast charging works well enough that I never have battery anxiety or play wall hugger. In situations where I know I'm not going to be to top off I bring my juice pack. It's just a non-issue. That's not to be dismissive of it's importance to others but I believe battery life will be OK. Of course I could be wrong but time will tell. For those on the fence you can always wait to see how we make out within the next week or so.

I agree with you.

If I know I may be away from home for a while and may need a charge I may bring my charger with me... But my phone has always held up battery-wise. The charger is more about me having my bases covered than actually needing it due to low battery.

Plus, when you think about it, that 5000+ mAh, coupled with a big and juice-hungry display, may also put the Ultra on the same level as S10 battery life.

I'm a huge NOTE fan. I've been using a V30 for the past two and a half years due to a stupid mistake on our part. I'm retired and can't be spending full price for phones so I'm currently waiting for the NOTE 10+ to come down in price to under $600 over on Swappa. That's the button I want to push :) Simply a matter of personal preference in my case.

Let us know when you snag your Note 10+!

I don't like fingerprint in screen and I would miss my headphone jack. I carry a pair of cheap headphones in every jacket so I'm never without them. I find cheap wireless headphones have no bass and aren't loud enough for me to hear in a noisy environment.

Two reasons: 1.) According to many reports, it does not appear to be ready for Prime Time. 2.) $$$

It should be dropping soon.

In short, I not long ago spent $1400, on my iPhone 11 Pro Max.
As much as I would like an Ultra, I just do not want to spend another $1400.

Try $1400 for a PC graphics card! (Asus Tripple fan RTX 2080 Ti). I did cave and order a S20 Ultra but there's no guarantee that I wont return it...

I don't know why, but i am finding it very easy to not push the button on Upgrading.

2 Reasons for me really.

1. I don't like the Large Payment at the end or give your phone back
2. The Camera from reviews looks not an awful lot better than my S10+

I really am not feeling the love for the S20

What are your reasons if you are not getting it or haven't yet?

I am very happy still with my 9 plus. I am feeling a bit antsy, as it seems like it's time to upgrade. But everything is working right, and the new feature that I really want is useful 5G. That still seems problematic. It seems like it will take another year to shake out.

Believe the benefactors of 5G on S20 Series will be the second owners after the device is sold by the original purchaser, plus they will have paid far less.

I used to get antsy when a new flagship was announced but pricing these days ends up bringing me back to reality rather quickly. Then after some thought we realize we're not advancing overly much from our present devices. In actuality, mid-rangers, or the "cheap" flagships, have been way more enticing to me over the past couple of years and that's probably where I'll stay if they keep producing them... Now if a device's sustainability becomes 5-6 years (support/battery) then we might change our tune on the expensive flagships, ain't gonna happen so we're safe.

I paid $450 for my s10+ best buy is giving me $600 for it

well in that case start a phone trading business!

You know faults and all, I am starting to think that the pixel 4XL is probably the best droid out there right now.

If one plus offered wireless charging and really came to the party camera wise (or persuaded google to let them use cam) they’d challenge them though.

Really think Samsung misread the market this year. First year I don’t have a shiny new galaxy s arriving in March!

I too think the Pixel 4 is probably one of the best devices out there.

And I agree with you about OnePlus. If they added what you mentioned and water resistance (but I know that that probably will not happen, to cut costs), I'd get a OnePlus phone. I've always loved them. And the prices of phones are getting way too ridiculous now.

All you have to do is wait another month. Wireless charging coming to the One Plus 8.

I just hate their cameras.

The Gcam apk is decent on the OP but I think camera will always be where the cost cutting will hit on a OnePlus.

That's super exciting! But ever since owning a Pixel 2, I've become a bit of a camera snob, unfortunately... So if I get a new phone, the camera has to be good. That kind of means I have the desire to want a OnePlus phone, but never execute it due to the camera performance.
