Why aren't I receiving Gmail push notifications on the Galaxy S6?

Hi, i was having the same issues but i figured it out, basically you need click on sync on your notification bar, drag it down and find the sync icon on your notification bar. Once you have touched it, do a test email, worked for me. :)

It has always been set to sync :) i think most people with this problem are a little smarter than that ;)

Update: I returned the phone and ended up paying an additional $60 to get the Gold model from BestBuy which had it in stock. I talked to the reps there and quite a few people have returned the Edge models for various problems including this notification issue on the White and Black models. The two i returned back to Costco were both black. The Gold model they just received and have had 0 returns but it has only been a week and there was only two left. I'll test tonight and report the findings. The Samsung rep also told me there has been very little returns of the non Edge model, most if not all the returns have been on the edge models according to him.

I also had a customer tell me on his edge (black 32gig att) his exchange emails would get deleted automatically and after 3 phone swaps he went with the note and has been happy since.

Samsung needs to spend a little more time to work out the bugs b/c this is a great phone with the exception of these software issues b/c most are software related.

Update: The gold model i got did not take OTA not matter how many times i tried, factory reset, cache, etc. The home button also was slightly recessed in more on one side than the other. This to me spells quality control issues at least with the home button and this is the first have seen on the s6 edge but the previous phones were all black. So I went to a different best buy and got another gold edge and this one the home button looked right and it took the OTA on the first try like the previous black phones. I'm leaning on not only software issues with the edge but potential quality control issues with the hardware as well.

To the issue at hand with audible Email notifications, the first one did not work like the previous edge phones. So I'm going to be testing this new second gold s6 edge now. I'm not too optimistic at this point. I have a phone call schedule with the ATT ICU team tomorrow or the following day, would be interesting to see what the engineers have to say after testing this specific scenario.

Manage labels was the fix for me too! Thanks so much, I was about to do the whole delete accounts, reset phone thing as well but this saved me from that.

could you elaborate? By default, sent and priority + inbox are set to 30 days and they don't have the audible notifications set. If that is what you are referring to than yes I'm aware of that and that did not fix the problem

Samsung has admit this is a problem and they are looking into it. At this point I have done everything i can with the carrier and samsung. UCT will notify me when there is a patch released and ill post it as soon as i hear anything.

To those that are having this problem, here's what I noticed on my end. If I sent an email to myself from the default Mail client on my Mac (signed in to gmail) my phone did not receive a notification. If I sent an email by logging into Gmail on the Safari browser, the phone received the notification right away (in one case, before appearing in the Safari Gmail window). I also sent an e-mail from Hotmail by login into the Outlook.com website in Safari. I recede the notification right away. So it is possible that the Gmail app does not properly recognize e-mails not sent from certain clients in the same way. Maybe they are not signed somehow (I'm not a developer or programmer, so somebody else can chime in).

The phone was off the charger and WiFi was turned on. It's a 64GB version on Fido.
Also, my notify me for every e-mail is ticked off, so that doesn't make a difference.

My issue is that I get my gmail first on my iphone 6 then 20 seconds later it pops up on my S6...... Then again my mails get to me faster on my iphone 6 yet my S6 is faster on all speedtest test. My S6 also load pages faster on chrome so I'm not sure what the deal is.

Client has nothing to do with it. I used different clients, on the pc and phone, also used different accounts from others and created new ones. Turn your wifi off and repeat the conditions i posted above and you will not get any audible notifications. The reason you are even getting notifications is b/c you left Wifi on which prevents some sleep flag getting set. I'd be willing to be you turn wifi off and charge the phone for a while and than send an email and you will have no audible notifications.

Again its a known issue and if you want it resolved sooner than later you need to contact Samsung and your carrier so it gets resolved faster b/c as they explained to me the more cases they have the faster a resolution is completed.

Push email even when it does work is less then desirable on the s6, and I came from blackberry where it was instant from any account, or client.

This worked for me. I don't know if it will for you guys.

I went into my Gmail and go to "Settings" -> (check the notifications box) -> then proceed to "Inbox sound & vibrate", change the sync messages to 30 days, then check the "label notifications" box.
The default sound on my device is "whisper".

I tested this a couple of times and the notification worked fine for me. Hope it works for you guys.

YOU ARE THE BEST!

I couldn't figure out how to fix my emails - it was going right into the Gmail app instead of the Mail app and turning sync on from there.

PHEW!

Re: Not receiving Gmail push notifications on Galaxy S6

Have now had this same issue on both a 128gb S6 on AT&T (black) and an S6 Active. It has not been limited to just email, but rather many other notifications (including score updates from theScore). I've now got another S6 on the way, this time a 64gb in Gold. If it works, I'll stay with it. If I don't get push notifications, I'm done with the S6 and I'll stay with my Nexus 6.

This is by far the biggest issue with this phone. I don't know how this isn't getting more play. This is such an awesome phone, but wow does it have its share of problems...

Re: Not receiving Gmail push notifications on Galaxy S6

Do not return your phone, it will happen to all the newer phones. It is a known issue and being resolved as we speak, be patient, i saw this over a month ago and now there might be a resolution. Can't discuss details yet. Will keep this post updated when it takes affect.

Well I got it from Swappa so it would just go back up for sale. But this can't go on for much longer. I need emails for work.

Re: Not receiving Gmail push notifications on Galaxy S6

After returning 3 Galaxy S6's I finally got one that the push notifications work perfect on.

So that would make me believe that it is a hardware issue, right? If you can swap phones until you get one that works flawlessly and Samsung obviously hasn't updated anything, then how could that be software?

It is not a hardware problem, there are a few issues but it is software issues and related to the carrier. Again there is a resolution in work, be patient. I will update when i get more info.

Then why doesn't it affect all phones and also hits all carriers? I'm totally confused. It's been on two of my S6 and S6 Actives, both in AT&T.
