Why Bionic when there is a Samsung Galaxy S2?

If Samsung is working on an LTE version of this phone I wouldn't plan on seeing by this May. Verizon has only announced 4 LTE phones: HTC thunderbolt, Samsung Droid charge, LG revolution, and the Motorola Droid bionic. The only specs that Samsung has released for the galaxy s2 show the phone is an hspa+ phone, and the only version of the phone that the FCC has seen so far is the hspa+. Until either Verizon or Samsung say that the galaxy s2 is going to be released as a LTE phone I wouldn't pass on the bionic because I think there is a possibility that Samsung might release a similarly spec phone as the Droid bionic in the future.

I do not see why Samsung would make the Charge and then another LTE phone for VZW and release it shortly after. So I assume that it will not be LTE, VZW will not carry it, or it will not be on the carrier for a while.

Here ya go ....

Ummm looks like a bad cut and paste job. I have only heard pipe dreams and wishful thinking of the S2 coming out. Besides it doesn't even have the proper radio to run on LTE. Down the road if they change out the radio then yeah.

Charge is part of the Droid Line-up. Whole other thing. Galaxy SII is going to replace the aging Fascinate.

Droid branding for the Charge is going to be marketed a lot different as you know.

Yes, but it is still Samsung making the phone, it just seems like they would be making competition for themselves by releasing two LTE phones on Verizon at the same time. I understand if it just one of their 3G phones to appeal to those wanting to avoid the dreaded 4G tiered plans, but the other being part of the "Droid line up" does not effect where the money goes and it would be bad business to have to advertise two different phones when they could focus on just marketing for one per carrier.

I hear you : ) but your are assuming its going to release late this month or early may which it wont.

In reality though nothing is for sure. Carriers pull the plug on phones all the time...

Verizon only announced 4 LTE phones back at CES and with the droid charge release around the corner i doubt samsung would release another LTE so close. Assuming it does come to verizon, I do not see it happening till later in the year.

Why do people assume the Bionic will have a PenTile screen and how is that a negative in comparison to the the Galaxy S2, PenTile trademark is owned by Samsung and the Super AMOLED screens have a PenTile matrix.

Anyways the Atrix is a 4 inch phone and the Bionic is a 4.3 inch phone, with the same logic, we could a see IPS just as likely as we would see a PenTile display, after all the Droid and Droid 2 have IPS displays.

If the GS2 get released by Verizon I will say it will be released around the 4th Q. I believe that those list with it added are fakes. This phone will be released by T-mobile and or AT&T between now and June. So if you want to take a chance and wait for this phone if it comes to Verizon then go ahead. There has been No Official Leak from Verizon that a Verizon GS2 exist. Yes it is a Great phone and if it was official I would probably pick it over The Bionic. But since we know the Bionic is coming. I will choose the Bionic or you can go to AT&T or T mobile to get it before Summer comes in. I will not never leave Verizon. They have been the best service for me. GS2 is a Great phone but not worth leaving Verizon for. I know I will be happy with either phone..

Preach here's some disappointing news. Bionic has been scrapped. Another device will take it's place with similar specs.

I don't know why it was scrapped but wnrussell over hofo said it's dead.

Motorola "Targa" 4G pre-release thread - Page 7

That was posted in another thread too. I have an incredibly difficult time believing it though. I'll wait for an official announcement from Motorola or Verizon on it.

Where are you getting you info on this phone from? This phone is not an LTE phone and it does not have a cdma radio in it. The only Samsung phone launching on Verizon with LTE is the Droid charge, which is definitely not a galaxy 2 device as it only has a single core processor.

There was a leaked release sheet saying the s2 will be on Verizon. Also the s2 is officially going to be a 1.2 ghz dual core.

That was clearly a fake. If you are waiting for the S2, it is most likely you wil be waiting until the fall.

I just watched a video of the Droid X 2 benchmarked at over 2,500... Still can not figure out why they are making droid x2 and droid 3 without LTE... just doesn't make sense to me...

If you saw the non-public sales and purchasing information at VzW and Motorola, you would understand...

What he said. Besides, if LTE isn't your main concern (it's not mine right now) there are lots of benefits to not having an LTE radio, of which battery life is the most important one.

There's a reason why VZW is charging a premium for the Thunderbolt and the Droid Charge - two big reasons actually: 1) They can use LTE to re-establish the pricing curve toward commoditization (that is, they can temporarily increase profit margins for them and the vendors), and 2) they can control the rate at which LTE phones start sucking down bandwidth on their network.

Verizon has a LOT of it's marketing image based around how reliable their network is, but their LTE network is still in its infancy. You aren't going to see all of their smartphones sell with LTE until the middle of next year, when they've been able to roll out enough bandwidth to sustain it (doing so faster would be prohibitively expensive). Since LTE is obviously desirable, this allows them to keep it scarce, charge a lot more for LTE phones, and therefore help to pay for the rollout with those extra profits.

The GS2 will be released in May. In the UK that is. Not supposed to be coming to the US until Q3 possibly Q4.

1. Let's revisit the Samsung update issue. That was not a typo before, the Fascinate has not yet received FROYO!!!! The Motorola Droid received this update at the end of last summer! Really?!?!?!

2. Many of the technology features of the S2 that are 'superior' won't make that much of a difference for most people.

The S2 will be a great phone, but it doesn't completely oust the Bionic. Anyone's decision should involve phone manufacturer and carrier.
