Why can't I find edited photos in Gallery anymore?

Android Central Question

When I edit a photo in Gallery now by auto adjusting colour, it says it's saved but I can only see a duplicate of the original photo in Gallery.
 
Sort by date Sort by votes
Which phone?
Which version of android?
Which carrier?
Which "gallery" app?

Is the original image stored on the internal storage or an SD card?
