Why can't I mount or format my micro sd card to my HTC One M8?

Can't mount or format micro sd card to htc one M8

Hi y'all, I just recently purchased a 16GB micro sd card for my htc one M8, and it doesn't recognize it. Everything is grayed out in the settings under storage, and it says the card is unavailable. I can't mount it or format it. I thought it would be simple like my other, older phones in that all you had to do was insert the sd card and it worked. Am I missing something? Did I maybe purchase a bad card? Kind of confusing, if I knew it would have been this much hassle, I wouldn't have purchased it. Any advice for this naive mid-western boy would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Could be a bad card. Could be your phone (hopefully not)

You need to test the card in another device... another phone (maybe a friends phone), camera, PC, Mac (need card reader). If any of those can read/format it, try it again in your phone. If they read it and your phone still doesn't see it... might be your phone.

Thanks, I was able to try it in another phone, and it didn't work in that phone, either, plus I tried another card from another phone, and that card worked in my phone. I'm thinking a bad card. Thanks for your help!
