First off I would like to thank everyone for their efforts in helping me. I am new to all this and after having I phones I never imagined that a new phone would present such problems. I also have a Asus phone pad 7 and no problems with that. It just works as advertised. I shall persevere and hopefully learn a few things.. Thanks again.

As far as I know nexus 7 does not have a micro SD slot. But anyway your welcome. BTW sadly even my moto g being 1st gen does not support SD card😜.

Don't worry google is going to fix this in android l which u will probably receive next month!
There's nothing to "fix". The SD card is now part of the Linux filesystem, even it it's formatted as FAT32 or exFAT. That's probably going to stay. An app that creates a folder on the SD card can write to that folder, other apps can't unless they're part of the group that owns the folder, are running as root or the folder gives everyone write permission. Linux 101. (The root of the card should be writable by everyone.)

Android l is going to let the user decide which apps have have permissions to which locations. So its not exactly a fix but a revised SD card permission

Sorry it is not a Nexus 7, it is an Asus phonepad 7. and it has a micro SD slot. So when, and how, will I acquire these permissions? will they come automatically? My Asus phonepad7 still has version 4.4.2, they haven't updated that.

I phoned Samsung today and told them that I am not happy, that the phone they sold me does not do what they advertise. I have agreed to let them have remote access tomorrow so we shall see what they can do. I will keep you informed. Thank you for your kindly assistance.

Actually you don't need them. If you have patience and are willing to wait for android lollipop for your phone which will probably come next month for you then your SD card problem will be solved. There's nothing Samsung can do as far as I know. Just check this link out http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...s-automatic-mediastore-and-improves-security/

Thank you, that was a very interesting article. Perhaps tomorrow the Samsung guys will release Lollipop for me while they are playing on my phone. ha ha. but more likely they will not. However as you say if I am patient the update will sort it. So anyway thank you once again for your patience and if I make a mess of things I will know where to come for help. Bye for now.

This all refers to how apps can be written to access the SD card, it doesn't do anything about how already written apps will work. If you want to be able to create a folder with ES File Explorer and have your camera save pictures to it, you'll need new versions of both ES File Explorer and your camera app. And if the developers don't write new versions using the new APIs, there's nothing you can do except use different apps.

So ES has been modified. That's half the solution.

Hi, Well, Samsung did the remote thing and got it to save to the SD card, but the SD card erased things when anything new was added to it. Though it worked ok in my Asus Fonepad 7, So I swapped my Asus card into the Note 4 and the Note 4 card into the Asus and now both devices function perfectly. There is something about the cheap SD that is not compatible with the Note 4, but works in the Asus. Anyway I can now save things to the SD, the Camera can write to the SD, and I am a happy little Bunny once more. Thank you for all your help I am just posting this in case it helps someone else.

One of the "somethings" about cheap cards is that some of them are smaller cards programmed to claim to be larger. (There's a whole little programmable computer in that little card, it's not just a memory chip.) If you fill the card, then write something to it, and the memory chip is smaller than the card claims to be, the memory chip gets wiped.

So you pay $5 for a 32GB Class 10 card, and what you're getting is a 2GB card, reprogrammed and with new printing on it. Put 2GB on it and you're fine. Save a 1KB text file and the card gets wiped. If you run SD Insight on a card like that, you may find that it was "manufactured" before microSD cards were invented (like 1970 or something).

Yes it was a cheap card, I will know better next time. Thank for that.
