Why Cell/tower information is not displayed in smart phones?

Hi, When i bought nokia lower end phone and still it works, i found cell information display menu in display, which usually gets me the nearest tower information of where i am moving. Particularly this helps the user to know, the place where he is , when he is travel in trains , an idea of the passing places or stations, if the towers of the service providers are found in there.
It was and is useful on journeys. But in smartphones, i do not find this information. Ofcourse, location tab gives your place and not the place of the tower. Is there any free android app that gives the tower information. Or is there a setting, that has to be modified or set to get the actual tower information in smartphones. If it is discontinued, why?

Hi, I did not know Go advanced option to get the reply in my email. Hence i am using that option
