Why did my Nexus 5 external speakers stop working shortly after loading Marshmallow?

my nexus 5 external speakers stopped working shortly after loading Marshmellow.

The speakers came back once and then stopped again. I tried a factory reset. Is this a hardware malfunction or could it be a results of 6.0?

Did you get it working? You know the N5 only has one speaker?
