why do i have pop up ads ?

okay so i have a htc one and i used to watch movies on put locker . its a free movie watching website . ever since i used potlocker , i have been getting these pop ads telling me I've won money , and that i have 5 new viruses. or even sometimes i get ads directing me to inappropriate sites. i have tried using those virus detector apps but nothing . the ads are just annoying me whenever i use my phone . please help!!!!!
