Why do most people hate TouchWiz?

Re: Why does almost everyone dislike TouchWiz? I'm just really really curious...

Ok, i'm new with the android. Only been using my phone for like a week. I've read some threads about launcher etc and i'm seeing many comments saying "I hate touchwiz etc etc." And i'm just wondering, why does so many people dislike TouchWiz? I mean for me because i'm a Nokia > BB > iPhone 2 years user. So i don't see what to dislike about it. From the point of view of the people who dislike the TouchWiz. What are the things you don't like about it?

I've no idea!
I used iPhones and my beloved Palm Prē in the past. My history with Android phones is as follows:

I had the HTC Evo and the Evo 3D and I liked Sense UI, then I got the Motorola Photon 4G and motoblur was ok.

Now I have the Galaxy S4 and I'm fine with it, can't understand why people hate it!

These are some reasons why I don't like TW:

  • Connections optimizer is constantly turning wifi on when I don't want it, or turning 4g off when I do want it.
  • There is no option to make the home screen rotate. I know not many people want this but I do and I find it very annoying.
  • I think the UI in general is ugly: Cartoonish, bright clashing colors, Icons that look like they should be in a children's book, etc. I will say that this and the home screen rotation issue can be mostly remedied with other apps. I use Nova Launcher, Google Calendar, Google Keyboard, Swipe Dialer, etc.
  • Cannot customize the quick toggles.
  • Cannot customize the power menu
  • The lock screen is ugly and looks cluttered. And the unlock animation is ugly and rudimentary. Also the unlock action is too easy to do by accident as it can be done anywhere on the screen. The way around that is to use security (pattern lock or similar) but I don't like that because I like being able to use the notifications pulldown from the lock screen and being able to go straight into apps from the lock screen.

I will say that the newer versions of TW look A LOT better than previous versions and also have features that Cyanogenmod has that I've always wanted in TW. But I much prefer CM or even AOSP. Although I will admit that TW has some features that make it better than AOSP functionality-wise in my opinion. But AOSP looks so much better to me and has a few things that TW lacks as well so overall I still prefer it.

I think the VAST majority of SGS users have no idea what Android, Touchwiz, AOSP or anything else is and don't care. I think their is a vocal minority online that hates TW. I also think it would be ridiculously cool of Samsung if they offered the option to use a more AOSP-like ROM for "advanced" users who do want that look and feel. But they would never do that and frankly they're smart not to waste the time and energy.

My personal opinion is that some think it is the "cool, in-thing" to say they don't like Touchwiz .

Touchwiz is a VERY easy to use, but it is ugly! It's on my S4, one of the highest res screens on the market, and it looks like a 4th grade design project. No "Wow" factor with graphics that take advantage of the screens capabilities. No, not here. Disappointed by the look.

The look of your home screen? Or the settings page. Not sure what your referring to. If it's your home screen your talking about, the out the box setup is very lackluster but you can spice that up to your hearts content with a new launcher, some widget making apps

TouchWiz is the fastest launcher I've ever used by far. Every other launcher lags and stutters but TouchWiz is the only one which runs like a 60 fps OpenGL animation. When the phone isn't generally lagging that is.

I honestly don't find any problems with it... Not sure if it's because I am more of a samsung person than anything else, But can someone who dislikes Touchwiz tell me why you dislike it?

Don't know either... It's quite fine for me. Sure, it's not as customizable as others and some people claim it's slow and laggy, but it gets the job done IMHO.

I think it's just a force of habit, now... People hate it because they have to, they don't really know why, they just follow along :P

From what I read it introduces lag. Sure its small most of the time, but some people cant handle that. Coming from a now 2 year old phone, I think the "lag" will be fine with me, but I also want to customize my screens more than the 4x4 will allow.

I think that it the bad feeling is carried over from earlier versions of Touchwiz, like the version found on the Galaxy S series and the Behold II. I can appreciate Touchwiz more now than I could in the past, but I still prefer the responsiveness of stock Android devices.

I find that touchwiz wastes too much screen space because of the grid spacing implemented. With Nova, and other launchers I presume, you can customize your screen grid to your liking.

Anything great comes with hate but Touchwiz like every OS has its drawbacks. Some more than others depending on the person because everyone is different.

TBH I'm just grateful to have the outstanding technology we have today. I'm young and barely can remember the age of the VCR but I am still very grateful and appreciative. We are so spoiled today..to hear some people complain about waiting 0.5 seconds for a webpage to load, lol. I mean sheesh #FirstWorldProblems.

Touchwiz can be laggy with all the features it packs in but I rather have something that separates my device from others than not. IOS and Stock Android literally has nothing going on and are personally boring to me but some prefer the lightening speed!

I think TW is pretty cool, overall. I wish Samsung would slow down for just a minute and optimize TW instead of throwing more and more and more gimmicks into it.
If it were refined just a bit, it could be be best skin ever.
