Why do most people hate TouchWiz?

I think he was just looking at overall sales numbers. I imagine it would have been difficult for him to check at your school before posting.

That and I'm under the impression that Galaxy devices do either similarly or better globally, but not necessarily in the US market. In the US I think iPhones come close to matching Android as a whole, of which Samsung is a majority. Obviously any anecdotal survey of a tiny number of people in any small location can have very different results than the entire picture.

I think TW is pretty cool, overall. I wish Samsung would slow down for just a minute and optimize TW instead of throwing more and more and more gimmicks into it.
If it were refined just a bit, it could be be best skin ever.

I would agree with this. A lot of things don't seem cohesive.

My other issue that has been mentioned is that compared to devices I have tried with a stock Android, it can be laggy at times.

It's sad that this thread generates the hate that it does. Everyone can have different preferences, and everyone can put his/her own money behind those preferences.

I happen to like both Touchwiz and stock Android, but stock Android has the edge to me. One thing that I don't like about Touchwiz is the all-or-nothing approach. I don't like S-Voice. If I don't want it on my Samsung phone, I have to root it and get a non-Touchwiz ROM. If we could disable certain parts of Touchwiz but keep others that we find more useful (S Note for me), that would be ideal.

Oh boy. Here come the Nexus elitist nerds who think every phone should run stock android, and think they know more than phone manufacturers. My Note 3 should be here Wednesday, so I can enjoy Touchwiz in all its glory.

The point of having stock is that the customizing start point is near the lowest resource (memory/storage) level possible. If you don't want something from the oem then it takes even more resources to overlay it with something you do like.

Samsung sells the Note 3 with Touchwiz, and you can turn off the features, you do not like. Samsung is not forcing you to purchase their phones, and they are doing quite well without the support of the Nexus elitist crowd. I have the Note 2 and getting the Note 3, and I have no problems with TouchWiz

I think it's just a force of habit, now... People hate it because they have to, they don't really know why, they just follow along :P

I always liked Touch Wiz UNTIL SGS4, I just don't think they ever optimized it to work with JellyBean, but now with the Note 3 I think they devoted some more attn. to it and its running much better.

But personally, Touchwiz has given all "overdone UI's" a bad name, even when the UI that is "overdone" works great, (LG) & has options for most features to be disabled, never ever lags or gives you that dreadful, "loading" msg and actually CAN "enhance the experience just as good as almost ANY replacement launcher...

unfortunately, as Apple proved, in the chest of 95% of all consumers, beats a "sheep's heart"...lol (and if ur offended by that comment, don't be, YOU are prolly one of the 5% that can look beyond what you're being told is "the latest & greatest" :

But you CAN disable S-Voice... either by choosing not to launch it with the Home Button or by 'freezing' the service altogether... No need for root nor flashing another ROM.

This is too funny. You are commenting on TouchWiz UI when the LG UI is a bad TouchWiz copy turned up 200%, and is really ugly. LOL. I guess you had to come here to see what all the fuss was about as the LG Pro forum is pretty dead.

Try the Galaxy Young for a month. You know, one of those Galaxy phones that make for a horrible experience and will never see an update.
Then realize the sum of all the "bad" Touchwiz phones sold is about 3 times as big as the "good" ones. You'll then have an answer why people hate Touchwiz.

USA != World.

If you don't like all the features that touchwiz has, just turn them off and enable them when you choose. Lag is overrated! This is an awesome phone , a big difference coming from the note one!

I have no desire to use some old phone, so I won't even waste my time. I get it you don't like Samsung or TouchWiz, so trying to prove your point to me is just more of a waste of my time.

When did I ever say I don't like TouchWiz? And the Galaxy Young isn't old.

A question was asked, Why do people hate TouchWiz? My answer is that most of the phones sold that run it are pretty bad. You cant use the S4 or the Note 2 or 3 to judge it, because those are the few phones that Samsung spends time and money to keep running well.

I didn't think that concept was difficult to grasp. Apparently, I was wrong.

Between the fact that there are some devices that have a hard time running it, and the general idea that TW is getting bogged down with all the extras can be a culprit. TW on the S2 was reasonable. Once more and more things were added, in my opinion, TW got worse.

I can't choose to use another voice dialer as the default on the stock Touchwiz ROM. I tried it on the original Note and the S III. Disabling S Voice still wouldn't allow me to use another voice dialer.

There is a thread here some dude showed how to activate developer options and turn animations off. I did it last night and I can't believe how fast this is now,, everything is blink of an eye fast

THE BEAST,,NOTE 3. SIZE IS EVERYTHING!!!

Most of the people on the Note 3 forum are not using the Galaxy Young and could care less about that phone. This is the Note 3 forum, so if you are trying to convince everyone here not to get Note 3 based your hatred for TouchWiz, then do not hold your breath. I could care less what you think about TouchWiz as you have no bearing on my phone purcha

Enhance your calm. No one is trying to tell anyone what to or not to buy. The question is what turns people off to tw, and people are trying to explain the reasons.

They have just as much of a right to their opinions as you do to your love of tw... The only real difference is that they were asked for their perspective, whereas you just spoke up because you disagree.

But the Galaxy doesn't sell more than the iPhone, at least not here in the U.S.

My word you're a hostile little fellow, aren't you? Let's see if we can't say it in terms you'll understand.

  • Little Timmy wants a smartphone. He gets a Galaxy Note 3. He loves it! It does all sorts of cool stuff, is big and bright, and has a really cool built-in stylus. Awesome level is at 11.
  • Timmy gets on the Internet to talk about his new Note 3. Suddenly, he sees that most people hate the software. He can't understand why. All this cool stuff Samsung put in there, yet people hate it. What gives?
  • Turns out, that the people complaining about the software aren't using a phone like the Note or the SGS 3 or 4. They are using the "rest" of the phones Samsung sells that run a different version of TouchWiz that's pretty bad. These are the phones that Samsung sells the most of across the globe ? by a huge margin.
  • These people greatly outnumber the people who are using the good version, on good devices. Therefore, the complaints greatly outnumber the praise.

The question was not about the Note 3, or any specific device. It was about Touchwiz, which has earned its bad reputation via the millions and millions of bad devices sold each year that run it poorly. It's completely understandable for people using a Note or S4 to not see why people hate it so much, because they're running an improved version that gets timely updates when things need adjustment. Until you've used something like the $99 Galaxy W Crap 3 on Boost Mobile, you won't know this.

Finally, you're putting words into my mouth that I never said. I never said people should not buy the Note 3. I never expressed any hatred for Touchwiz. I also never said people shouldn't purchase IBM stock or ignore the weather forecast and leave their umbrella at home. I was just trying to answer the OP's question, because I have had to use plenty of "bad" Touchwiz phones, and know first hand that they do not compare to "good" models like the Note 3 or S4. Maybe my answer isn't correct, but it's an educated guess based on plenty of personal experience with some of the poorest Android devices available.

I can't break it down any simpler than this.

That's a silly comparison...I didn't even know the Galaxy Young existed and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone here who even owns or cares about it. Then you talk about the horrible touchwiz experience on it neglecting the fact that it runs a 1 GHz Cortex-A5 CPU. What did you expect to happen. I'd doubt stock android would run smoothly with the specs of that phone either.

You can't expect an Intel Celeron to run Windows effortlessly, so don't expect the Galaxy Young to run Android or touchwiz to do the same. Talk about phone that actually matter.
